inthemail Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 where might i be able to find a grinding bit big enough to shape and contor for grinding metal? almost like routering edges. what kind of bit would have to be used in machining edges with a dremel? are they powerful enough? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 please tell me this isnt to try and port your motor? Quote
racer Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 How much metal you looking to remove? I too hope it's not for porting a jug. Quote
Snopczynski Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 I use a dremel for some work I do on motors. I have a pretty nice variable speed dremel with a extension kit on it though. Your gonna need some bits they pretty much only make in a 1/4" shank to port a set of cylinders though. They have to be put in an air grinder. www.carbidebur.com Quote
2strokespirit Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 (edited) http://www.dremel.com/en-us/attachments-an...537&G=66240 I port with my dremel, I also have a 90 degree cutting tool to do the transfers, but a dremel can do the job just as good, I have a Digital 400, variable from 5000 - 33000rpm and use the pencil attachment to do the intake and exhaust. It is powerfull enough, its not the idea to push hard on the metal to make it cut, its how fast it can cut, 33000 cuts/minute. I use it for engineering purposes as well as proxxon. inthemail Posted March 24, 2008 Author Report Posted March 24, 2008 dont worry im not going to port my cylinders, i learned something a while back about thhe "right tool for the job" what i am doing is cleaning up my frame and lightening it, just needing bit advice on cutting down welds and shaping them. i know theres gotta be a better bit than an alum. oxide grinding stone. it does the trick but not effectivly enough. are there steel cutters? tidos76 Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 they should have what your looking for here. your are probably thinking of a burr. it takes out mor metal quicker but you will need to clean it up with a stone or sander grainger Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 i used an angle grinder when i cut my frame. then i smoothed it out as much as i could with the grinder and took some sand paper to the rest. came out fine. Quote

theshee Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Yeah use and angle grinder to cut the mounts, then just use sandpaper to clean up the grind marks.... way faster, ive done 4 frames that way and you cant see where any mounts were. Quote
