NitroTate Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Ok this was a freakin mess! I was trying to remove the bolt (in picture) that holds the bracket (in pic) to the brake caliper. I managed to get the bracket off with a LOT of elbow grease but then I couldn't get the bolt out! I knew I needed to get it out because as far as I know that thing should slip back and forth in the rubber boot when installed or at a very minimum it should turn so you can remove the bracket! So I figured it was frozen in there somehow and took it to a hydraulic press to push it out... it took almost 3 TONS of pressure to get the damn thing out and now that I look at it, it looks to have a sleeve that the bolt rides through and is rusted together! Am I correct?? Should the bolt ride through this sleeve smoothly? Or did the person before me jimmy rig something here???? I've never torn my brake apart to this level so I'm not sure... At any rate I need to replace the bolt (and sleeve?) because I chewed the hell out of the allen head. HELP! Quote
BigRed350x Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Yes, the sleeve should slide across the bolt. Just like on your cars front brakes. Get a new sleeve and bolt and when you asseble it put a coating of grease on the bolt before you slide it through the sleeve. Quote
