meanjoe Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Hey people. I posted some of this in another thread with a gas question and was given answers that were spot on to my questions. Now i have one that focuses on jetting so i figured i'd copy it over to the correct forum. Any info would be great! I recently picked up a banshee, my first although have ridden them before. I need some of you guys to answer some questions for me. I'll post the bike and what i know below, then my questions. 2001 banshee. Toomey T5s, Toomey high capacity radiator, v-force3 reeds , Rickey stator adjustable timing plate, D&D split high comp heads, Vito's custom needles, jets. Stock bore and stroke, K&N pods. The guy runs VP C12 Racing fuel mixed w/golden spectro 50:1. He doesn't remember the size of the head(cc) and is running 300 main jets, said it's set up for 65/70degrees. He also has the timing at +5 or +7 couldn't remember which. I'm still trying to learn everything i can about jetting and what not. The guy i picked the bike up from set it was jetted for around 65/70degrees. How do you jet a bike for a certain temperature? Is this possible? Now the question that goes along with that, if It IS possible to jet for temperature and it's set for 65/70degrees if the bike is used in colder or warmer weather can you do harm to it? Thanks again. Definitely loving being a new Banshee owner Quote
IrideA250R Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 generally, the colder the air temperature, the more oxygen it will hold. This means as it gets colder, you richen up your jetting. You can definitely harm the bike by running summer jetting in the winter, as it will lean the bike out a lot and cause it to seize. Quote

Thanks for the quick response. So with the jetting it's running now if you had to take a guess what would i need to change to run it in cooler weather? Quote
gentner8 Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) How cold are you talking? I would venture to say a step or maybe 2 up on the main jet, depending on your temp and elevation. Maybe lower the clip (raising the needle) one notch if needed and fine tune with the air screw. Hopefully you can get away with the same pilot and just adjust the air screw since you dont spend a lot of time at less then 1/4 throttle. Just a ball park guess since I dont know your riding conditions. Edited February 21, 2008 by gentner8 Quote
IrideA250R Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) well, here in MN the high temps have been struggling to even hit 0. I have my stock carbs jetted with a 280 main, 2nd clip from bottom on the needle, and 30 pilots. I've just run it around the block a few times though. I have real similar mods as you do minus the head. I would probably start in the 320 range on the main and go from there. Edited February 21, 2008 by IrideA250R Quote
