Skip2 MyLou Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Hey fellas, So last night i started my banshee, right after i had fixed the front brakes. When I tried to start it, i put it at half choke, pumped the throttle a few times, and started it up. Not even being on for 3 seconds it shut off, kinda normal, but wait. The next time i get it started, it starts backfiring, and by backfiring i mean a sound of air shooting out of what i believe was the right exhaust. I thought maybe something was stuck in the carb, so instead of checking, me being lazy, i thought what the heck, lets see if it clears itself out. I went riding around, and almost everytime i would slow down, when i would pressed the clutch, the engine would die out. Also keep in mind as i was riding, every other second i would hear that shooting air noise. After a little while it stopped when the bike warmed up. But then it started again, however not nearly as much as before. A little air "poof" here and there. I dont think it would be the plugs as the bike was a new 06' and is only about 5 to 6 months old. What should i do, or check for? and is this something i should really worry about, or am i being over protective? Quote
peak-j Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Clean your carbs, mine did the same thing when I got it. It wouldn't idle at all, and it would sound like a blast of air coming out of the pipe. Cleaned my carbs and problem was gone. Quote

Got any tips also? I haven't worked on a bike like this a lot before, and the dual carburetors is kinda intimidating me, I'm a little weary that i may mess something up, and not be able to fix it. bansheejoel Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 its easy as hell just dont lose your jets and when you get them back together and on dont forget to hook your choke tube back up. use a fine piece of wire to clean out your jets and use a air compressor if you have one to blow air thru the carb. peak-j Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Take them off one at a time if you are worried, or mark your caps left and right. Don't mix the bowls up either, just use carb cleaner and blow them out with an air compressor. Quote
