As far as side to side movement of the rods they were still in spec. according to the clymers manual. The motor has maybe 30 hrs. on it if that. Before I put the new ported jugs on, I was pushing it pretty hard up a steep hill and I heard a pop and smelled antifreeze for a split second. I already had all the parts sitting there for a new top end so I decided to install them after that episode. I also installed new o-rings on the cool head. Thanks for the replies!

Gotcha, it would make sense if it turns out to be the crank, mine was starting to seperate just from pipes (no porting) (but not twist or come out of phase). Something had to of caused your previous failure, sounds like its coming back to haunt you. Good luck im out of ideas.

Well the same thing happened to me....mine was a mangled piston that was bad enough to make it do what yours is doing but good enough to keep it running.

BTW mine was a fresh top end as well but the guy who did it (the guy I bought the bike from) must have got a little trash into the cylinder or something.

Might pull the jugs and check the pistons just for good measure. I would not run it at all till you determine the problem.
