timjz Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Do I need to remove the oil seals in the clutch cover to powder coat it? I ask because it looks like the impeller bearing holds in an oil seal. Has any one on hear done this? Thanks. Quote

Push the impeller bearing and seal out with a socket. And do the same with the vent nipple on the bottom. And you can gently pry the kickstarter seal out with a screwdriver or something. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 actually i always leave the seals in when i powdercoat anything like that, then after powdercoating, it keeps the powder off of the sealing surface, then i pop it out after baking and pop in a new seal, it can be done either way though. NitroTate Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Yeah, they are both correct... either take it out or have a new one ready. I just PC'd mine the other day and I took everything out. It's pretty easy. By the way, speaking of bearings and seals... I removed the seal but how the hell do you get the clutch push lever bearing out??? You can't get to the backside of it with a socket.... Quote
sheerider1026 Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 i leave that seal in and plug it off with a silicone plug Quote
NitroTate Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 i leave that seal in and plug it off with a silicone plug I'm not worried about the seal, I'm worried about the bearings. You think they are alright with the heat? I guess so but not sure if it will warp the bearing cage since its so thin....? Quote

I'm guessing its gonna take a really steady hand and a dremel. :teehee: Quote

Hilarious Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 What are you going to do with the dremel?? Just destroy it and put in a new one I assume? Yeppers. Mine has gotten sand and grit in it so I have to replace it. It doesnt appear that you can get it out without destroying it. Quote
