bansheejoel Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 i am going to be rebuilding the shee in the next few weeks and have a few questions...what is a safe number to advance the timing +4? what is the benifit of advancing timing? also how much would you recomend milling the head without worring about reliabilty or anything.....just looking to get a good smooth running engine with some more performance while the engine is torn apart. not looking to make it a drag quad by any means. anything else i should do since it is torn down? thanks Quote
Bobman13 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 I would suggest A Noss/cool head versus the milled head as you can up the compression with domes allot easer, Second Most people on here will tell you to go with a +4 timing advance I'm going to go with +7 with my 17cc domes but I run race gas. I would also go with Wiseco Pro-lites as they are cheap and I have never had a Wiseco fail on me yet, And I've run them for the last 20 years. Other than that It all depends on what mods you already have done (I.E. Pipes, reeds, carbs, Etc.). Quote
BansheeKid15 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 I would get the jugs ported, dont get a drag port... but even a trail port youll be able to tell a difference There are alot of builders that different people swear by. So a search... there is alot of information  Quote
bansheejoel Posted January 28, 2008 Author Report Posted January 28, 2008 (edited) if i were to get a noss head would be a safe dome to use 20cc domes? im just looking to up the compression to where the engine runs best...on 93 octane fuel my shee has fmf fatties, no tors, and twin k@n pods thanks (my shee will be for mostly dune riding and for trails) Edited January 28, 2008 by bansheejoel Quote
350BANSHEE350 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 okay if you were me i would go this way for dune/trails BTW what bore are you going to be going on for this rebuild? trail port (search for your desired builder, i would go with F.A.S.T like always) wiseco pistons kit to next size (excellent pistons) bore and hone to next size keep your pipes keep the k&n get a parking brake block-off plate (10$) p-brake is crap 21cc noss domes/for coolhead +4/7 on timing (wouldn't go past 7) to get optimum performance decide on your gearing dont forget to jet properly (plug chop) BTW if you dont have the money for a NOSS head which much of us dont you can get the stock one shaved .020 and +7 timing nd be on pump Quote
Bobman13 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 I've run the 20cc safely and all the way down to 18cc on 93 octane with +4 but That was pushing it. But I also run at higher elevation now. And You would be amazed by the V-Force 3's and a timing plate would do for you the V-force 3's were my very first mod that i did on my 06 shee and I could tell a difference. Also Consider doing a very mild port job I you have the knowledge you could do it yourself but I would only suggest this if you are able to do it otherwise send it to Herrjugg racing or F.A.S.T. If it's going to be down for awhile. I know it seems like allot but It's something you'll eventually do any way. Quote
Bobman13 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 I do know that Money is always a factor but I'm of the adage if your going to be there anyway do it right so you don't have to do it latter. Modding you banshee is something you'll never complete there will always be something else to do it's just the one's you choose to do now that are going to be the key. Just like everyone here we are on a budget I would love to spend $5000 on my quad right know but I'm doing the same as you slow and steady. Quote
wacko2000 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Are you stripping the bike down to the frame or just pulling the engine out? If you are do a complete rebuild I would suggest for starters changing all the bearing and seals.. I was shootiing for the same thing during my rebuild, and nice reliable machine.. You already got some pipes and pods, Get yourselve some v-force reeds, timing plate set at +4 and bump your compression some and you are good to go... and Maybe some slight porting and you will be very pleased with your new shee... 00shee00 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Iam guessing that your tearing the whole motor down or just the topend? If the whole thing is getting torn down and the crank is good it might be a good idea to have the crank trued and welded that way you can do some more mods and not worry to much. Quote
bansheejoel Posted January 29, 2008 Author Report Posted January 29, 2008 i would love to do a COMPLETE rebuild but that wont be till next winter...if i got it in late fall or early winter i would do a full rebuild, but only getting it 2 weeks ago and the dunes opening late march im not seeing that big of a budget. for now im looking to do a complete top end (bore, pistons etc), v force3 reeds, billet water impeller, parking brake block off, removing old clutch lever assembly and putting on new perch, new pads, new handle bars, case saver, timing plate, prolly new clutch, and some new tires all the way around, paddle tires and new silencers (spark arresters) so that right there adds up to a decent amount, plus im still paying it off.....do the flywheels (magneto) come off hard or do they usually pop right off because i used to have a honda 200x three wheeler and i tried to pull that off and fucked up the end of the crank...so if they usually come off hard il prolly skip putting on a timing plate although i want one bad....so if i do put a plate on and run it +4 il be good to go and not have to worrie about anything? thanks everyone Quote
bansheejoel Posted January 29, 2008 Author Report Posted January 29, 2008 also is milling the head a good way to bump compression or should i get a noss head im not worried about changing compression once its done (as far as domes or anything) as long as i can get somewhere around 150psi of reliable compression i will be happy i just dont want to have to put o-rings in every week. or dick with it. if milling isnt all that great i will buy a coolhead but would like to save some money as im starting college soon just bought the quad (money pits haha) and am trying to save money up for a house Quote
Bobman13 Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Don't bother milling the head Just get a Noss/Cool head you'll be allot happier in the end, as for the flywheel It comes of pretty easy but By the Puller It's cheap like $12.00 and you can always use it later. Go with 20cc domes. Quote
