Installed mine today, that thing is a fuckin beast of a cooler. My Q6600 is OC'd to 3.0GHz and idles around 50*C, and it won't even come close to 70* with a P95 load on all four cores. For $50, can't hardly beat it.

Looks "cool" pardon the pun. I dont have much experience on the aftermarket air cool stuff. I have the liquid cool stuff on my pc. Let me know how it works out for you.

I hate having to vaccuum out the dog hair out of my LQ radiator. Hopefully you dont have that problem.

It works nice, keeps everything cool. LQ just wasn't an advantage in my mind. Don't need to chill my GPU, and I'm not pulling crazy OC's. My Q6600 is at 3.0ghz, 2.4 is stock, and is cool enough for me.

Easy loco...

 

Think of overclocking your processor (CPU) as porting your cylinders...sort of.

 

You're telling the Processor to run faster than it was designed to out of the factory....

 

This used to be done in the old days with pencil lead on the chip, then BIOS took care of the bus speed and multipliers, now...you can do it through software....

 

So...think of it as ramping up the power and speed of a processor faster than what it was designed to go...and, as you'd expect, it runs warmer, hence the need for a better cooler.

 

It's a big thing for gamers and those that want to brag about their benchmark scores (think dyno for computers)...

 

For an email/Internet type, and basic office/word processing, totally not worth it...

Do you have FIOS by chance? that DL is smoking....

Simply, to overclock you just crank up the voltage and the front side bus. this in turn creates more heat, and that's when you need to look into heavier cooling solutions.

Might be worse with the air cooler (mine was). If your PC is on the floor, moving it to a desk will help. Or get some dust shields. I just air compressor mine out every 6 mo or so, and use a screwdriver to hold the fan blades so they don't spin.

No, I dont have FIOS. I have comcast cable upgraded to the 16Meg package.

 

I do have my PC on a desk, but its just the smoking inside and animals in the house i am sure. I just vaccuum the radiator out once in a while, not a biggie.
