gumby6t9 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 My friend got a cub cylinder cheap because the bore was scratched. It is currently out for replating and he wanted me to ask you guys what would be necessary to make this cub compatable with a 4 mil stroker crank. The cub came off of a stock stroke machine. Thanks! WALLACE84 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Im not a 100% sure but I think guys just run different domes (for 4 mills) with stock stroke cubs  Quote
No Limit Powersports Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 To get the port timings back to where they are supposed to be you will have to have it ported and it would have been better to do it before you had it plated imho. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I agree with Andy... However, many will port them with fresh nikasil...it's just tougher to grind, and you have to be more careful not to have an "oops" while grinding on them. Here's a little secret...a lot of guys buy 7 mil castings and mill the tops a little for bigger ports on a 4 mil setup, and 10 mil castings for 7 mil, etc. Quote
Dave I. Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 There was a post about this on Planet Sand and it seemed like most everyone said its best to just get the correct cylinders for the stroke you plan to use. I remember them saying something about the port timings being too far out of wack to try and get them straightened out to work with a 4mil crank. If you have an account over there you can search for it. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I agree....it's always easiest to get the correct casting for the correct stroke crank you're gonna use. But there are times when you can get a cylinder for a steal, and the extra porting needed is probably cheaper than buying a new cylinder....before I built my 10 mil, I was looking at getting a used 7 mil casting for a pretty good price. However, once I spent the money to have it re-nikasiled and the ports matched, it was more cost effective to spend another 100 bucks and get the 10 mil casting.... Quote
gumby6t9 Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 Thanks for the replys guys... I gotta call him and let him know. Before I do, I know what he's going to ask me so I'll ask you guys first... Don't laugh too hard... What about a stroker plate? I don't think they fit cub cyls but I have to ask because he will want me too!! Thanks again. Quote
J-Madd Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I asked this question a while back and it was unanimous that it wasn't cost efficient, and it still would not run like a cast 4mil. Quote
Animalman294 Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I agree, get the cast for the stroke that you are trying to build less chance of failure.......... Quote
