rtcc Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Hey guys, When I bought the bike the clutch cable seemed to long for the aftermarket lever it had on the bars but I just thought it was a problem with the lever. So I got a new clutch cable and a asv universal lever and it is still to long! Ok so when its installed in the clutch lever on the case and I pull the lever side it moves fine and everything, but its like end of the cable to where the casing starts is too long. So the lever doesnt have enough pull to actually pull the clutch cable tight. Is there another adjustment somewhere that I am missing? pleas help Ive been waiting on these parts for awhile and I want to get this thing going, thanks! Terry yes I searched but nothing came up Quote
rtcc Posted December 6, 2007 Author Report Posted December 6, 2007 Ok also when I push the clutch arm on the case toward the clutch side, it stops pretty much right on lined up with arrows, but it is rock solid right there. I cant push it any farther with my fingers. the cable is motion pro from rockymountainatv and had the right part numbers, I know its not the cable. The old cable was the exact same way. please give me any ideas you guys have. I dont know what to do? Quote
2ss Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 is routed correctly? if you know its the right cable that my guess than. Quote
J-Madd Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 The adjustment screw is too short on some of the aftermarket levers. Put your stock adjustment screw back in and see if you can get it tight enough to only have about 1/8 inch play before the cable starts to engage the clutch. Quote

I mean honestly thats exactly what its like. I dont have the stocker though A lot of guys are running these levers though I think. Its the ASV F1 or one of those. rtcc Posted December 6, 2007 Author Report Posted December 6, 2007 is routed correctly? if you know its the right cable that my guess than. yeah I have tried several different routes, but it doesnt matter cause the slack has to be taken up from the ends. From the ends to where the sleeve starts. SO UPDATE! I ripped into the case and tried adjust the clutch lever even though it was lined up perfectly. I adjusted it and now its about a 1/4" inch back from where it should be. Its on the stator side of the arrow and the slack is perfect. But I cant tell if it is engaging all the way. When I pull in the clutch I can roll it but it has some resistance when it rolls. I have been thinking so hard about this now that I cant remember what normal was! It will roll but you can tell the engine still wants to turn over some. so what would be causing this problem??? thanks Quote
J-Madd Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Don't leave it adjusted like that at the case!!! It makes sense to do that, but for some reason it'll fry your clutch if it' not lined up! Pm me your address and I can send you a stock adjuster.....or you can cut a slit in some washers and use them as spacers to make your cable tighter. Quote

I think it was a allen head screw, pushes lever out for more pull. I also thought my cable may have stretched or clutch was going/ adjustement fixed it. Quote

I dont know what to do? i did the same thing the motion pro cable isnt right, i talked to motion pro they deny anything get a stock cable from dealer or someone and it will be perfect, i had to adjust my adjustment screw all teh way out and still was 1/4 too long. lucky i saved my stock cable. so thats what you need to do to fix it Edited December 7, 2007 by wesw Quote
J-Madd Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 FY!: The stock adjuster fixed his problem, unless he says otherwise. Quote
