jaredvh Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I was thinking of switching over to the long life coolant. I was at Wal Mart and they have some pre-mixed long life. I believe it is made by a company called Zerex. It is a 50/50 mixture and is the pinkish stuff. I think it said G-05 or something like that on it. Wanted to make sure it will be alright before I switched over. Was going to drain out the green stuff and run just some water through before switching just so I dont mix too much of the old coolant with the new coolant. Quote
Washburn Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Hell no dude dont do it that pink shit isent made for bikes. Someone more knowlegeable will chime in I just want to get to you before you do it. stick with the maxima or Honda ect 50/50 blend. Figure its more expensive but you dont change coolant that often to notice. Quote
dajogejr Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 There is a BIG, HUGE debate over this here on whether to use the long life or normal run of the mil green coolant in bike. I use water straight from the hose in the summer, and put 50/50 prestone/water for the winter so it doesn't freeze. In My Opinion, none of these new fangled long life antifreeze/coolants were around back in 87 when they created the banshee...or before that for the RZ/RD engines, and good old green run of the mil coolant was good enough for them back then.... The motor sure hasn't changed since 87....why should the coolant type?? Quote

Just pull the rad cap and the two bolts from the side of the block? Quote
dajogejr Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Pop the cap off. remove the lower hose where it goes into the water pump housing. with an air nozzle cup your hand around the radiator fill neck, and shoot some compressed air in there... It'll pretty much whatever doesn't drain out through the hose and wp housing... Just did this yesterday to remove the water and add the coolant/antifreeze. Quote
