Handyman Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Well here's the thing..Before I went to Sand mountain Nv. in Sept. I was swapping out the knobbies for the paddles and found my left rear hub loose..I know I tightened it up when I installed the rear hubs. I didn't think anything of it and tightened it back up. went out and rode for a couple days and checked it before and after every ride and a few times during the day while riding and never came loose. well the other day when i was swapping the paddles for the knobbies (to put the shee away after not being able to touch it since the wreck) I found the hub loose again. What should I look for when I pull the hub off?? I know to look at the splines on both but what else should i look for, if anything. Thanks in advance. Quote

kaotik1 Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 See if there is play side to side, and not front to back. If there is you just may need a washer behind the hub to take up space so when you tighten the crown nut it's tight again. Also cotter pin as stated above. Quote

Yup I put in a cottoer key..i put a big one so there was no play. ohh yeah if they was stripped the tire wouldnt move with motor power (just spin inside the hub} and bike would wanna pull towards that side.. Yeah it's not completely stripped but I think it's getting there See if there is play side to side, and not front to back. If there is you just may need a washer behind the hub to take up space so when you tighten the crown nut it's tight again. Also cotter pin as stated above. the play is on the back side and not on the side of the nut. no forward to back movement. The nut was as tight as I could get it with the brakes on and in gear. Quote
