dekker Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Alright, Last weekend I lost one of my sparkies and rather than spend 75 bucks on a new one I want to just put some screen infront of the end cap. My quiestion is will this pass at Silver or not I know they are strict on sparkies. Just wondering if anyone has done it and if they bitch about it. Thanks Zach Quote
FireHead Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Generally speaking, if your spark arrestors catch the attention of a legitimate law enforcement officer and they wind up not having the U.S.F.S Approved sticker or stamp on them, you can wind up in big trouble...................beyond just getting a ticket. Quote
shanYE west Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) It WILL work. But the screen used must be USFS approved screen. Alba makes a kit you can buy and the screen is approved. I even asked the DNR officer about it and showed it to him. He said it was good. They can tell by looking at the screen if it USFS approved or not. My cousin tried to use some cheap screen he picked up at the hardwarde shop and they caught it. Jody is the head officer at Silver Lake and he was the one who approved the screen. Bansh-eman Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 those screen at alba are crap they burn through in no time. if you end up getting one just for a quick fix insure you make sure they put the sticker in there. if you call and say that there isnt a sticker they will not send you one. they claim that they only have enough for each screen.generally speaking i wouldnt buy anything from abla unless it was last min and i was heading to the dunes and they where the only ones that had something i HAD to have to go. if i can wait ill buy else where. they have the worst customer service becasue all the rich basterds that live near them Quote

Bansh-eman Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 im pretty sure its a federal law that requires it to be approved by the forest blah blah blah... i cant remember the name. but they wont last a year. mine lasted 1 week end and burnt a hole right thorough them Quote

The law doesn't state that the housing of the screen has to be approved. and alba's screens are approved. They (DNR) dont make you have the stickers. Atleast not here. We talked to the Head DNR officer for about 2 hours on this. The screens we're using are 4 months old and still going with the season over.. so they lasted a year for us. You can hate on Alba all you want, thats your choice. I dont buy anything from them either. But.. that 15.00 kit saves you alot of money over the big ass clamp on sparkies that can fall off (as his did) and get lost. If someone else made them, I'd buy from them. But as far as I know no one else does. Quote

FireHead Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 Really you can't carry in Cali? hmmm. Never knew that You can carry a concealed piston in CA. The permit process is overly complicated and widely unkown or misunderstood though. I had one for the years I was in SoCal. :geek: Quote
