hello...i am not a banshee owner as i ride bikes...but i have mucho respect for quads..it's all about the ride!...anyways....i am joining here to ask a few ?'s about my buddies banshee.....he has no computer and dumps all his money into his banshee.....here is what he has.....1996 shee with a +4mm stroker crank and a 404cc monoblock cylinders from vito's.....open kns.....bolted directly to the carbs.....35mm kehiens pre-jetted from vito's.....no reed spacers.....ricky stator stock output staotr advanced +4......stock coil.....pro curcuit pipes.....br9es plugs....ALL NEW...he has an intermitent miss at various rpms....i am tearing into it because he knows squat.....and i know a little.....i tested the coil with a ohm meter and found it had infinite resistance from the terminals to the ends of the wires.....not good.....now i want to take the wires out of the coil but how is that done?.....just yank'em out or what???.......thanks in advance........the coil was not new but what causes them to go south?

There is a plastic clip that retains the wires in the coil. I did note in some manuals that the coil testing procedure is wrong! YOu need to test plug wire to plug wire for secondary transformer and T1 to T2 for primary testing. I really doubt that coil is bad. Most of the time, it is a stator issue. I highly recommend you remove the plug caps and test separately and add that value to your coil test value. The caps do fail frequently.

thanks alot for that info.....coil tested good.....15,000 ohms.....stator is brand new but we are going to check it later today as he has to go suck up to the ol' lady before she goes to work.....lol.....we will check stator pickup gap and resistance through stator corrrect?

Yes, test ignition side and pickup coil. The inductive pickup rarely fails unless hit by something. The lighting side of the stator will not affect the ignition side. If it tests good, I would look for something unplugged, grounded, or open like a TORS switch or failing kill switch.

If it is all unplugged, that will not matter. There switches in each carb top and the thumb throttle assy. No worries there.

is it a brand new ricky stator stator? there have been many people having similar problems with the high output stator.
