elwilliams13 Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 I am looking into getting a 200w stator to run better lighting. I have been reading on here that alot of people have been having trouble with Ricky Stator, are there other good choices out there for stators? If so give me some ideas, I am going to do this soon and was thinking of going with 2 55w lights and the battery as well. Thanks in advance. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 i run a 200w RS .. i have had 0 problems... the guys that have issues with them are normally having issues with the set screws on the pickup. they are extremly weak and will strip out. the stator its self is fine. im sure there are a few as with any electronic that have a bad one that fryed but generally speaking they do what they need to do.. As far as the battery goes its not needed unless you plan on running some huge lights and want to do the d/c conversion or you simply want to run your lights while your bike is off. there have been many nightmare stories about guys ruining brand new stators trying to convert them... i know there are a couple guy on here that have had thier for a while and work fine. Id say if your not savy with electronics dont bother cause its unnessessary. Quote
rubberneck Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 A stator and lights is going to be my next mod as well. There were several posts on here dealing with the dc conversion. I dont remember who, but a member had RickyStator float the ground on the stator for him before they shipped it out, that way all he had to do was get a regulator/rectifier, mount the battery and rewire the bike. No messing with doing the float yourself. There are several step by steps on here though if you want to do it yourself. I am seriously considering it because i want to run HID lights. Quote
elwilliams13 Posted September 19, 2007 Author Report Posted September 19, 2007 I just wanted the battery because when I am on the trails at night and slow down the lights dim and on occasion have had a few tree branches drill me in the face. It hurt with helmet and all. I bought the 35 watt bulbs from ricky stator and it helps some but not a solution. My buddy runs 55 watt lights with the stock stator and offered to hook mine up but his lights are a little dim. Not enough juice from the stock stator. Quote
Snopczynski Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) I know how to wire in the battery. I even made a battery mount and used an odyssey pc 545 on my banshee. I used a reg/rec from a snowmobile company out of wisconsin. I personally run a 200w RS unit wth a lightened RS flywheel. Edited September 19, 2007 by Snopczynski Quote
sredish Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 I ran my 200w Ricky Stator for quite awhile, powering two Hella 500 w/ 75w bulbs and it was bright as FOOK. Worked well never had a problem, just don't let moisture in there. Quote
letsgetthisdone Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 i have a ricky stator. stator fell off the timing plate. called 'em up, let 'em know what happened, they sent me a new one, no questions asked. would definetely buy from them again. Quote
