N2Otorious Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 OK first off I have a 2001 Banshee, guy said it had about 100 hours on it blah blah blah. Only mods I can tell are FMF gold series Fatty pipes, and FMF Power Core II silencers, and K&N filter with out outwares inside the factory air box with lid. My issues- To crank the bike I have to set the choke out to the first click, bike smokes alot and cranks one 1st or 2nd kick. I ride around like this with the choke on hoping that it'll warm up enough to remove the choke, after 5 minutes of taking it easy up and down my road I reach down and release the choke by pushing it in. Then the bike wakes up, lotsa power and runs like the banshees I've rode of my friends. Then 10 seconds later it dies and will not crank unless I pull the choke out again. I've also noticed that while cruising at a steady speed with the chock out on 1st click, the right side sounds like it goes out, bike looses power and I can here a pinging in the pipes, most of the time it clears up if I engage the clutch and give it some throttle... I have since purchased some stock carbs of e-bay from a running bike, just about to order some boysen power reeds, gonna change reeds while I have the carbs off. Any Ideas, I was thinking the bike sat up for soo long that the carbs are gunked up.. Quote
xXBlessedWithDeathXx Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 If i was you i would check compression, clean the carbs, get a outware for the filter and take off the lid to the air box. then see what happens. Quote

I'll do a compression check today and post the results. What wound be the best recommended procedure to clean a K&N filter? I'll begin searching E-bay for a Outware for my filter, I guess until then I can run without one. Only running up and down my street as of right now. Quote

It comes with the cleaner and the oil. Check out www.rockymountainatv.com for the kit and also for the outerwears for the filter. They have great prices and a great website! Quote

ClimbAnyHill Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 All bikes will smoke, more if it's cold. Are you running too rich? What do the plugs look like & what's your jetting setup? Quote
