so like the topic says it shoots flames and has a really speradic idle. i took off the air cleaner and looked down the carbs my left carb, the side shooting flames the carb wont close as far as the right carb does its stays like an 1/8th to a 1/4'' more open than the right carb... is this normal? i played with the thorrtle cables and it doesnt seem like its stuck open. could that slide be bent that the throttle vavle thingie slide's on?

No thats not normal. Clean your carbs with carbs with carb cleaner and you should be alright. As for the flames, cant help you on that man!

Is it backfiring, when it's idling? Sounds to me like the carbs are really dirty, or it's jetted too lean, or you have an air leak. You are getting the flames, because it's too lean. Clean the carbs, as mentioned before, and get back with us.

The timing may be off if it backfires while trying to idle. I don't think a lean pilot would cause one to backfire, it just wouldn't idle at all.

I've seen a Banshee backfire at idle, because of a lean condition. It happened with my brother's Banshee, when he put pipes, and silencers on it, and the pilot, and main were too lean. It shot flames out the silencers, about 2 feet, and it was very hard to start.

On stock carbs? Thats odd. You can run a stock pilot in stock carbs with pipes and a filter (even porting) without being way too lean (unless its REALLY cold outside), assuming the air screw is adjusted accordingly.

The first things to look at are carb sync and TORS if you have those still. You indicate that one slide is open more than another so that is the first indicator that a cable is toast or out of adjustment. Get the slides to work in unison and that should help. After that is solved, then I would proceed to a carb clean.
