rhuebner Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 i figured but if it is the same as the stock one only billit than shit i wont spend the 80$ lol need some more advise i gess I have one on my 421 cub motor and stock radiator, and has worked great so far with no overheating but I only have about 8 hours on the new motor. But from what I've been hearing from people on this site it is a good investment expecially since you already have the clutch cover off. Quote

FireHead Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 I would say yes to the impeller as it is a reliability issue more than anything else. The OEM units fail without warning, in which case you find out it failed too late out in the middle of the dunes. Quote
adrenaline junky Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 (edited) Once the plastic one goes, your done for the weekend. And don't get a modquad billet impeller! Someone on here a few weeks ago had to mill it down because it didnt fit. And do yourself a favor. Mount a temp gauge somewhere. Me, i mounted mine behind my right light. pic pic Edited August 9, 2007 by adrenaline junky Quote

MILO Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 i would definitely change the impeller for a pro design billet one, along with a new bearing and seal. the stocker WILL fail, it's inevitable. and like firehead said, it will happen at the worst time possible, of course. the play in the clutch basket is 'normal', as in it's a very common problem. what it is, is there are rubber cushions that sit in pockets between the basket and the large gear that you see attached to it, and they get worn. my understanding was that if it has more than about 1/4" of play, or movement, then they need replaced. less than 1/4" shouldn't be a problem but keep an eye on it. the cushions cannot be replaced on a stock basket. the gear is riveted to the basket and once taken apart cannot be put back together. so you would be in for another basket. an aftermarket basket comes with screws to replace the rivet set up, and the cushions can usually be replaced as needed. Quote
Bansheekid07 Posted August 11, 2007 Author Report Posted August 11, 2007 Well thanks for the help..... i just put a stock impeller in caz i called around and most people said they are the same..... So if it fails it fails when it does well idn. My cluch basket is something im gonna watch but it is so little play that it shouldent make a difference i hope. THANKS again Quote
