xXBlessedWithDeathXx Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 I have the V force 3 reeds and the petals on the corners closest to the cylinders are melted. its not to bad but they look a little melted. all 8 look like this, 16 corners. its on the inner side of the reed so i flipped them over to see if they work better. i`m getting unburned fuel in my cylinders. has this happened to any one? i`ll have pics later on today to post. FireHead Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 The V-Force reeds are carbon fiber, which really doesn't melt. The epoxy in the reeds might have become solvent or gotten hot to the point of changing shape, but I have not heard of ither thing happening. Quote
theshee Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 Yeah a pic would be nice.... Im with firehead, carbon fiber doesnt melt so I dont know what to say. Quote
xXBlessedWithDeathXx Posted August 8, 2007 Author Report Posted August 8, 2007 (edited) Yeah a pic would be nice.... Im with firehead, carbon fiber doesnt melt so I dont know what to say. The pics came out bad this was the best one. i`ll post more better ones if i should, but you can see in the pics how the ends are a black color. it looks more wore then melted. this was the inner side of the reed i flipped them over. would this cause to much fuel to enter the cylinder causing it to foul plugs? any advice would help. FasterThanU90 Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 hold them up to a light if u can see through the petal ends they need to be replaced Quote
T-rex Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 How old are the reeds? One thing to keep in mind that the carbon fiber reed seals against a plastic cage, this to me is the cause of the problem. I ported a set of stock banshee cages that have a rubber seal for the carbon fiber reeds and never had a problem like this. Just replace the reeds and go again, for how long this time! Quote
blowit Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 I am kinda wondering if there is porting on these cylinders and the boost port is too high. We see this a bunch in strokers with incorrect porting. Or should I say stock ported cylinders with a stroker crank. If you cannot find the cause, I would try new pedals and role on. Brandon Quote

Brandon i think Its a stock crank. i did a swap for a tranny. if it was a stroker wouldnt i need a spacer plate? if so i dont have one so it would be stock. no porting except for the intake boot for the 2 in one carb. i was working on a 02 rm250 and the Vforce 3 reeds are in the same shape as mine. i`m not realy sure how old the reeds are. i got them in the bike (Dec) of last year. i want to thank every one for the responses. i love this sight. if it wasnt for you guys i would have sold her by now but settled for nothing less then a banshee and nothings better. this is a better pic. i flipped the reeds to get a better seal. the part that seals looks new. this is a pic of what did seal to the cage. Thanks Again. Quote

Thanks Again. That an interesting mode of failure. It sort of looks like damage cause by reed chatter, but not really. I am wondering if Blowit may be onto something with his incorrect port timing idea. Do you know what your port timing is? Quote
xXBlessedWithDeathXx Posted August 9, 2007 Author Report Posted August 9, 2007 I dont know what the port timing is. never heard of it. Quote
