baddsheee Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 I am did a plug chop and and got a 2.5mm band on the plugs. Settings were 2nd needle clip, 48 pilots, 165 mains. 32:1 mix. I have my mid throttle sputtering and hesitating to get into the highs. When it hits the top it runs nice and hard. I don't have to choke it to turn it on. Should I go to the leanest position on the needle or does that not sound right? With my mains a bit rich do you think it's ok since I'm a 3k elevation and going down to Dumont this weekend where its sea level? Quote
jbooker82 Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 What needle are you running in your PJ's. I would recomend a CEK Quote
baddsheee Posted August 8, 2007 Author Report Posted August 8, 2007 What needle are you running in your PJ's. I would recomend a CEK I am running CEL's. Do the CEL's like to run in the lean position on how I mentioned earlier? Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 I am running CEL's. Do the CEL's like to run in the lean position on how I mentioned earlier? CELs are the right needle, your either too lean or too rich before it hits the powerband, have you tried to move the needle either way? i'd bet you need it to be on the middle (3rd) clip, used to have PJs and i got tired of them, too much of a hassle getting those things jetted, but after they are set, you dont have to screw with them. CEKs always gave me trouble, we are about the same elevation and ride the same places so i wouldnt recommend those. Let me know EDIT: I see your runnign 165s, that sounds rich for even 3000k, i ran 158s on mine with PJs. If your a tad bit rich now id just take 162s with you to dumont just in case, the needle should be able to make that 3000ft change no problem unless its too rich now. Eric Quote
wesw Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 is your dune port a set of 12 ports or just a reg port??? every motor ive seen or played with done by jim likes more fuel in the mid. you might try the 3rd, 4th clip. i would say 50 pilot your close to that, 4th clip maybe 5th and a 145 main on my old 4mm setup i ran a 60 pilot, 5th clip dek, 145 and it was pretty smooth. at 1000ft. you would probably have to lean it a bit for 3000ft but not much. imo. baddsheee Posted August 9, 2007 Author Report Posted August 9, 2007 (edited) I'm running a regular dune port. I think I blew my top end last time because I was too lean. That was with 148's. With the 165's my plugs showed a 2.5mm band. I will be trying the 3rd then 4th clip. I will let you guys know. Edited August 9, 2007 by baddsheee Quote

Just want to thank and update you guys that helped me out. Put the needle on the 3rd, then 4rd clip. 4th is running a lot better. Getting ready to wash it and put the paddles on for Dumont night ride tomorrow. for wesw for his knowledge on the PJ's and Jim's motors. I'll post pics of the Dumont trip early next week. Quote
wesw Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 (edited) just a thought you might try to fat up the bottom with a bigger pilot like a suggested adn mabye the 5th clip , then you will probably be rich on the top end, then you could adjust your mains down. ive played with jim motor and they really like fuel down low, and the mid for sure. but im leaning you are on the right path and will get it lined out. it should be a runner.
