WEEMANSHEE Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I'M NEW TO BANSHEES, & JUST INSTALLED MY NEW FMF SST'S & BOYESEN PRO SERIES REEDS, & REMOVED THE AIR BOX LID. THESE ARE THE ONLY MODS DONE TO THE BIKE SO FAR. I'M AT 1000' & 90 F. I CHANGED THE MAIN OUT TO A 290, PILOT IS STOCK, NEEDLE CLIP IS STOCK (MIDDLE POSITION) & AIR SCREW IS AT 1.5 TURNS. I RAN THE BIKE FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER THE MODS LATE LAST NIGHT, AND THE BIKE CUT OUT SOME & LACKED POWER FROM IDLE UNTIL THE POWER BAND IN 1ST GEAR. FROM THERE ON ALL THE WAY UP THROUGH 6TH AT WOT IT RAN GREAT. I PULLED THE PLUGS AFTER THE WOT RUN & THEY LOOKED GOOD. THE BIKE HAS ALWAYS BEEN WEAK (IN MY OPINION DOESN'T PULL VERY HARD) IN 1ST; UNTIL THE POWER BAND HIT, BUT IT HAS NEVER CUT OUT LIKE IT DID LAST NIGHT. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK I NEED TO DO??? MOVE THE NEEDLE, CHANGE OUT THE PILOT ????????? THANKS, IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ADVICE. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!! Quote
dajogejr Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Your slides are in backwards. Yep...look into the airbox, get a mirror if you can't crane your neck in there. The back of the slide should have a half-moon shape cutout on the bottom.... I'd bet that's your problem too!! Your jetting sounds damn close if not a hair rich. Quote
WEEMANSHEE Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 I'M 99.9% SURE THEY'RE IN CORRECT (CUTOUT TOWARDS FILTER BOX), BUT I WILL DOUBLE CHECK WHEN I GET HOME. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?? I WAS THINKING MAYBE ADJUST THE JET NEEDLE?? HOW COMMON IS IT TO HAVE TO CHANGE THE SLIDES FOR A DIFFERENT CUTOUT SIZE?? Quote

I've used stock slides on stock motors up to a big 4 mil cub...they're fine. If it's bogging right off idle, it's the slides, pilot jet/circuit or air screw adjustment. Did you get a proflow adapter to secure the air filter to the air box? Without the lid, it won't seal...as well. Quote

Might want to get a can of carb cleaner and with your bike running, squirt it all around your intake area to make sure you don't have an air leak when you put your new reeds in. Quote

Bruce...that's what I thought too. However, after 1st and initial take off, it runs fine...that's the kicker... However, I agree...that would be a diagnostic step as well... Quote
WEEMANSHEE Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 dajogejr Did you get a proflow adapter to secure the air filter to the air box? No I didn't I was planning on cutting the top of the lid out so it would still seal the stock filter (If that works well enough???). So do you think maybe I need to adjust the pilot jet size or air screw?? odaen I haven't tried that yet, but will do so tonight! Thanks, for the ideas guys!! Quote
WEEMANSHEE Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 Alright guys! Slides are definately installed correctly, & checked intake for leaks & it didn't show any, also got to ride it for a lot longer than I did last night. The bike cuts out way more in 1st than any other gear, but I did notice that there was a little cut out in some of the other gears. It seems that once the bike revs to a certain point that the bobble is gone but it is still way worse in 1st gear than any other. I did adjust the air screw out from 1.5 to 2 turns & it did seem to help slightly. I'm lost & don't know what to do next. What do you guys think?? Quote
dajogejr Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Going out on a total limb. You didn't put the factory reed stops on the reed cages with aftermarket reeds, did you? Are you using fresh plugs and fresh gas/oil? Quote

You didn't put the factory reed stops on the reed cages with aftermarket reeds, did you?Are you using fresh plugs and fresh gas/oil? No, left off the reed cages per Boyesen & put new fuel in it yesterday before I rode it. Plugs were changed after pipes were added so I could check them for proper jetting. I'm running a 24:1 ratio do you think this is too rich???? Also forgot to mention that I tried the choke trick yesterday & when I pulled it out it bogged so bad that it almost died. Quote
J-Madd Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 I thought for sure it would be your slides. If I could find one of my first posts, it would be just like this........and it turned out my slides were in backwards when I got it. Maybe you could lean the needles a notch and see if that works. If not, take the reeds out and make sure that they didn't come loose, or that nothing fell in the intake and is holding them open. I dropped a screw in mine once and rode around for a while before I figured out the problem. It was keeping the reeds from closing all the way. Unlikely scenario, but worth a look. You'll get it figured out eventually. Quote

I think that is what I will try next, and this weekend I'll pull the intake apart & check it for the things you mentioned. thanks for the help guys!! Quote
