Hi, i recently purchased a 1989 banshee from a friend, its a old beater of a banshee, but its fun to ride... after a new clutch, and an hour or so of redoing the wiring harness. my big problem now is it appears a previous owner had the chain snap and it broke up the crank/trans case pretty good, it looks like someone at some time welded some of it, and used epoxy of some sort on the rest. I'm not planning on putting a lot of money into this quad as i dont have it, and it rides well enough for me now. the crank was trued and welded the last time the engine was re-built (about 15-20 hours of riding). should i just tear down the engine and take it in to work and re-weld it and clean it up with a grinder, or should i buy a new case? if a new case is recommended, what company makes good ones for a good price? Thanks for all the help

If the case is cracked in a vital area then you should get a a new case for sure, is it only the top case or also the bottom or what? Usually when a chain breaks it only chunks off the top of the case (where the chain slides under) and isnt a big deal at all. Do you have any pictures of it? If it were my case id get a new one even if its not bad, but thats just me. Post in the wanted section for a new case, and if you post pics i can determine if you just need the top half. Ebay is also a good palce to look. Goodluck

the upper case dosent seem to have any leaks or cracks, its just the lower one that leaks... it is right near the shift shaft on lower crank case (bottom) that there is a crack... it looks like someone tried to fix it with JB weld or epoxy and it just chipped off while riding. I tried to take some pictures of it, but the only camera i have is on my cell phone and you cant make out the crack in any of the pictures.

Strokerace, how much do you want for the lower case half? im short on money right now, but in a month or so i may have more to spare...

Thanks for the replies
