chain length

can someone please tell me how to figure out how long of a chain i need.im with stock gears and chain right now, but changing to a 13/44. thanks. mods are in sig....

i think chains usually are 120 links when you buy them. thats plenty long enough so just make it the length you need.

just be careful not to cut it too short, otherwise youll be like me replacing a chain that still had plenty of life in it. :thumbsup:

oh and on a sid enote i managed to get the chain on there after taking out a link and it took out my carrier bearings at the top of the mountain. i made it halfway down before they totally came apart and the chain came off and broke the case again ::

then i got to push it for like 45 minutes with a flat tire.

better than taking out my countershaft i guess :shrug:

moral of the story: if you cut the chain too short buy a new one, dont try and squeeze it on there, a 100 dollar chain is better than a 200 carrier and whatever else gets wrecked as a result :thumbsup:

Here's the basic rule to chain length,

Add two links for every two teeth added or subtract two links for every two teeth subtracted.

So in your case you're removing one up front and adding three in the rear so it works out to adding two links.(106 links)Of course this all changes if you have a longer swing arm.

My advise is to get a 110 link from rocky mountain and cut to desired length.I run the primary drive H racing chain on mine with a tensil strengh of 8510.Hope this helps ya out.
