This is what happened on Thursday. Just finished putting the original plugs in from doing a plug chop. About 200 feet to the truck and I heard POOOF while being pinned in 6th, I pulled clutch and killed it right away. Pulled a plug and seen metal shaving on it. :sad:

 

Looks like a rod bearing broke into a thousand pieces. This was the first time that I tried to run 50:1, 927. I was running 40:1 and got a bunch of oil spitting out the silencers, so I decided to lean it out more.

 

After I cut the plugs that I ran a pluc chop on, I had about 0.75mm ring, I was running too lean also, 148 mains. My crank is NOT welded :shoothead:

 

What do you guys reccommend, is the crank repairable or should I go with a 4 Mill :woot: ?

if your positive you spit a lower bearing on the crank then youll only know how it looks by splitting the case pressing apart the crank and looking at the pin. i'd say if it is toast then why bother getting it pulled apart and slapping a new lower bearing in it when you can pick up a welded stocker with all new bearings for $325-$375... is there play in the rod? when you spin the crank can you feel it grinding? look's like it got hot but without seeing it in person i cant tell how bad you fried it...from the pics you may as well just yard it out and use it as a core on a new one...

That rod has about 3/8" play up & down. It also has large chunks of metal around there. I think I'm gonna shop around for a used stocker, trued & welded.

yea, your gonna need a new one. be carefull when shopping for a used crank cause you might just buy someone elses garbage. make sure you can check it out before you lay down the cash. e-bay deals that look too good usualy are type of shit. just be carefull...

Since Passion did your porting, ask him about your crank...

I can get it rebuilt as well.

 

Ray (minkia38 on here) has just what you're looking for, if you're gonna keep it stock stroke.

He has a Hot Rods stoke stroke/rod crank. You will have to have it welded if it was never done, the stock stroke hot rod cranks are not welded from the factory (and the factory welds on the 4 mil are shit, I always get them rewelded...)
