Hello all. I just ordered a 4'' over swingarm, and was wondering if it's a must to have the rear shock revalved / resprung for a 190lbs rider? It see's the dunes about once a month. When it's not at the dunes i just cruise dirt roads.

I'd probably try it with the preload cranked up and see how it does first, but if ya got the bucks it would be worth a rebuild/revalve, especially if it's an older unit (just had my '96 rear rebuilt this year and it was purty beat).

I don't condone the preload thing, but I would try the shock first before sending it out to see what you think. Atleast if you do have to send it out, you'll be able to see the difference that your hard earned cash got you. :geek:

Alot depends on how hard you ride too. If you're mostly doing drags or cruising on smooth terrain you'd probably be fine. But if you're hitting whoops fast or doing ANY jumping, I'd get it re-done.

Congrats on your new purchase...

I come from the point of view that "suspension is everything" so looking at it from my angle, your shock thinks you just gained 70 pounds. That isn't good.

If you just crank your spring to get your "Race Sag" where you want it to to make it usable for riding, you will sacrifice your "Free Sag". You will basically end up with an undersprung, under dampened shock that will get progressively worse because you will have the spring at max preload and the rebound set to max...it will kill the shock oil purdy kwik!!

You can find a good deal on an aftermarket shock that will transform your quad into a controlled, precise carver if you drop a few bucks....

Or you can just go out, have fun and blaze it!!!

Enjoy....

Once i get it all back together (powdercoating frame) i'll try it with the stock shock. I would post a before pic, but it won't let me. Pic size my be to big. Thanks for all the input!

Well put jayzx750. I would also revalve with a +4 swinger.

i have a TCS re-valved stocker......night and day difference

they set it up as a zero pre load ride height adj. dual rate w/eibach springs

it was most definatly worth the coin to have it done....was like 340.00 i think
