miashee Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 i just picked up an 03 bike. It right now has CPI pipes, cool head with 93 octane domes, and k and n filters on each carb. Im A big dirt/ mud trail rider so i want to switch to a box. If i go to a stock box with no lid and a proflo intake kit will i have to change my jetting? Also i heard cpi pipes are only good on bikes that are ported. Should i trade them for some T5's or just keep them. I also plan on getting an adjustable timing plate and v force 3 reeds next. What do you guys think? Quote

What do you guys think? 93 octane domes? i guess that means with the domes you have it's safe to run 93 with your mods and elevation? you need to find out what cc domes you have bud. i'm not sure about having to change jetting, but i run the stock box, no lid, with a pro flow foam filter, no problems on trails and mud. i'd suggest making your intake changes and the timing plate, do plug chops to check your jetting, and see what the results are before investing in a new set of pipes. What do you guys think? change your air box out and see how it runs, it might end up being rich...if so just jet down, as you know rich and fouled plugs is better than lean and blown up.... as for the timing advance it shouldnt affect your jetting or fuel mixture but you might have to step up the octain of your fuel if you start having detonation. as for the reeds i have never ran the v3's but have read alot of peoples dealings with them and most have said no changes or that they had to go leaner on there jetting so you should be safe going back to a box and v3's then leaning out your jetting to match.... swrbansheeboy Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 oh, and for the cpi's... imo (and mine alone) i dont think there a good trail pipe. t-5's are a pretty good all around pipe but if most of your riding is trails where you need a lot of bottom end i would recomend a set of paul turners and a 2 into one carb setup. cpi's are usualy a top end pipe and you will end up feathering the clutch to keep your bike up on the pipe ready to launch into the next turn... just my experiance. others may disagree... miashee Posted June 25, 2007 Author Report Posted June 25, 2007 well i ended up selling the cpi's and going to fmf sst's i heard that they were a good low end pipe and awsome for trails so ill see how that works. As far as the box ill see how it works out after a plug chop. Quote
