Strawboss Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 First off I would like to thank all those involved in posting the plug chop instructions and information on how to properly read jetting!! I was always one of the look for tan porcelain and "giver" jetters before this. Live and learn I guess. Yesterday I did some plugs chops with my new motor. The first I thought was a little lean so I went up a main jet size. I have a couple of questions when reading the plugs. I cut the entire threaded end of the plug off which gives you a look at the entire porcelain instead of just a section of it. It was pretty easy. Just hacksaw between the washer and end of the plug body and you can feel when you hit the porcelain. Rotate and plug and repeat until you cut all the way around the plug and the threaded section comes right off. As I looked at the plug one side of the plug had a chocolate brown ring about 2mm tall whereas 180 degrees from there is was pretty light brown and less than 2mm tall. Is this normal or should I go up a main size or two until the entire "jetting ring" is uniform all the way around. I am going to try to attach the pics of my plugs. The two photos are of the plug rotate 180 degrees to each other. I think you can see what I was talking about. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks! Ryan Quote
dajogejr Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 How does the bike feel at WOT? Boggy, surging, or perfect. I think the bottom picture if perfect. Just for the hell of it...get new plugs and do it again...if you get a 2mm ring, and it looks as good as the one i the bottom...I say you're fine. What mods, carbs and jets do you have in there now? Temps and elevation as well... Quote

Temps and elevation as well... I doesn't feel to bad at WOT. Seems to pull harder the longer it revs. Not sure if it is perfect though!! :-) I am pretty sure no surging. The bottom picture and the top are the same plug only rotated 180 degrees. Should the ring be uniform all the way around? I was going to go up a main size and try a chop, but I ran out of plugs. Just got some more, but haven't had time to try again. I have a TDR "Fast Rec" ported 4mm stroker with shaved stock head for pump gas. Not sure of compression because I haven't run a PSI test yet. I am actually running my old 28 PWK's, FMF Fatty's, and Carbon Tech reeds on a stock cage with 4 degrees timing advance. Plan to get 33 or 35 PWK's, V-3's and some T-5's or CPI's sometime, but trying to spread out the spending. I am in Wisconsin at about 600 ft and it was probably 80-85 degrees out. I had in 160 mains, 45 pilots, N68A needle on top clip, 1-1/4 turns air screw for the last pull. I have some JJH needles on order. Needs some tweaking yet, but it is definitely getting there. Once again, thanks for the help!! Quote
jeepman380 Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 You should do another plug chop just to be sure. If if looks like the bottom pic all the way around i'd say you are pretty close. But if it turns out like the top pic might want to go up a size on the main. Quote
