elwilliams13 Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Just wanted to get your opinions on this one. 2006 Banshee all stock not hitting like it use to. It is not a responsive on the throttle. I got pressure build up in my coolant as it leaks when at idle. And the hoses have a slight bulge at the clamps. compression is 90 psi right cylinder and 60 psi on the left. I am suspecting a head gasket leak but would appreciate any tips or info. If I replace the gaskets I will go ahead and do the rings too. Thanks. Quote
dajogejr Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Honestly...unless this motor has a TON of time on it...I can't see a bone stock 06 needing rings already... I'd measure them up....but I think a new head gasket is the key. It'd be a good idea to block up the head as well, to make sure it is not warped. You need some wet/dry sandpaper and a flat steel plate, move it around on the sandpaper in a figure 8. Normally, take a black sharpie marker and color ALL of the mating surfaces (not the domes) and figure 8 it on the paper for about 5 to 10 seconds. Then look at it...when it scratches ALL of the marker off, it's flat.... With 60 and 90 PSI, I'm surprised it even starts... Quote
elwilliams13 Posted June 13, 2007 Author Report Posted June 13, 2007 Yeah it starts alright, My gauge might be off as well haven't used it much but all the symptoms point this way just wanted a second opinion on this the rings was more of a preventive thing but will measure to make sure. Thanks Quote
96_banshee_96 Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 If you think you have a head gasket leak. Do a leak down test and spray the head with some soapy water. If there is a leak it will bubble. Quote

Not neccessarily... If the leak is between the water jacket and the cylinder, which...normally they are...it will leak coolant into the cylinder, but you won't see any bubbles on the outside... Quote
