greg_banshee Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 (edited) hey i just put my 4mil stroker kit together & now i seem to have coolant leaking from the base gaskets ? seems wierd because the coolant jackets don't go down that far ? it looks like its comming from the bottom nuts of the cases but .. its actually runing down throught the drain hole through the cases i checked all my head & cylinder nuts for torque & they are all at 20 ft/lbs. it only leaks when running (when flowing) maybe its just a misconception that its comming from the base gaskets. the thing runs aswome tho! only had it out for a 10-15 minute run. anybody else have this problem ? Oh & the guy that did my porting (well known in NS) said to use High Tack Gasket spray on my head gasket could this be my problem ? any help would be great ! Edited May 29, 2007 by greg_banshee Quote
BenBB Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 There's a rubber casting plug for the water jacket at the base of each cylinder, long black thing on the exhaust side, were those in place when you bolted up the cylinders? Sounds like it's leaking on the intake side though, how 'bout the hose & clamps on the line from the water pump to the head, checked those? Quote
Snopczynski Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 your plugs in the bottom of the cylinders are probably not installed. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 I had a leak that also dripped off my bottom case bolt. traced it down to this: And had to replace the oring seal to solve the problem.. Quote
greg_banshee Posted May 30, 2007 Author Report Posted May 30, 2007 yeah the plug were in the bottom of the cylinders for sure but do you really ever have to change them ? & i will have to check that o-ring ... maybe thats it ... but i won't be home this weekend comming up but i will be next weekend & i will track this problem down & will let you guys know what i find ! thanks for the help ! Quote
J-Madd Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 I've had it leak around the hose where it clamps onto the aluminum tube (in the picture above) before. It'll leak down through the hole in the cases and drip off of the bottom crankcase studs. I just tightened the hose clamp and it stopped. I'd at least try tightening that before taking the side cover off to inspect the o-ring. Quote
