stovepipe Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Removed my stock clutch basket . When I hold the basket and grab the gear on the back of the basket I can move the basket between a 1/8 to 1/4 inch is this bad enough to replace the basket ? is some movement ok? When I look at the billet baskets on line there is no gear or cushions with the replacement baskets . Does my gear transfer over ? If so HOW Quote
dajogejr Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Call Jeff @ FAST, get a Magnum billet basket. It held up to my 4 mil cub motor all last year, and it still looked brand new when I tore it down. In my 10 mil now. I'm pretty sure it comes with new cushions, too. You have to drill the old gear off the OEM basket, I think there is 4 rivets..or, you can grind the heads off on the basket side (you're not reusing the basket anyways...) The aftermarket basket has shouldered allen head bolts you 100%, MUST use loctite on. I think his basket runs 150 or 160....well worth it. He'll tell you how to measure/inspect your inner and outer hub, as well....they're cheap to replace, but if they're not in good shape, they'll waste your clutch in no time.... Quote

The magnum basket comes with cushions. Drill out eh rivets. They are of soft metal. Use RED locktite on the new bolts and basket. Replacing the inner hub and press plate should be a no brainer. Together they cost about 50 bucks or less. Dont forget to replace the lock tab that goes behind the nut that fastens down the inner hub and basket. Also inspect your adjuster, might think about adding a pancake bearing too. Quote
