rriggs Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 thinking my crank bearings are on their way out..at low idle has a pretty good tick, but goes away when the idle is elevated..which really pisses me off because it is a hot rods crank and doesnt have much use..anyone else have tips on crank bearings taking a dump?? the noise is from the flywheel side.. yamaha04 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 i had kinda the same sounds coming from my motor after i got it back. it had been stolen and i got it back the next day but there was this ticking at idle i swore it was my crank but i couldmt but my finger on the noise until i tore it down and noticed my one piston was lose in the bore and when i moved it back and forth i got the same noise. for me to look at the piston and the cylinders i couldnt figuer out how it would make that kinda nosie sounded like two ball bearing clicking together. anyway maybe cheak you compression to see if one cylinder is low Quote
Animalman294 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Yeah, its hard to pin down a noise when the bike is runnin', but it sounds like you got lucky with the piston slap............. Quote

Sounds like piston slap to me or a rod is tapping out. Better pull it down and see. Noise from the main bearings would be hard to hear but their failure WILL kill rod bearings. Radial play in the mains will cause an axial moment in the rod ends and they are only designed for radial loading. Better open it before something pops. Brandon Quote
