bbluebanshee Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Ok Sorry For The Stupid Question But.....What Is The Reason FOr Having A Extended Swinger?? Are you Losing Power Do To The Longer Swing Arm?? Thanks For The Replys If you dont know, it is not a stupid question!! Extending the swingarm helps keep the front end on the ground. As we all know, banshees have a hard time keeping the front tires planted under full power in lower gears. A longer swingarm basically move the weight more forward in the chassis. Some of the downfalls of haveing a longer swinger are turning radius suffers, as well as traction. Quote
White06Shee Posted March 29, 2007 Author Report Posted March 29, 2007 So How Would You Figure out What Swinger Would be The Best Quote
theshee Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Just ask what would work. There has been enough people try different things that you would find an answer. Really depends what you want to do. If you dune ride and like the front to lift when you want then you dont want to be too long, but if you drag and dont want to wheelie out of the hole then a little more length is fine. For instance, mine is a +8 and with my cub it will still lift when you want it to. Quote
BigRed350x Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 (edited) I ran a +4 on my 4mil cub and it would wheelie all over the place, which I loved. I have a +6 on my methanol 4mil now and even it will wheelie with ease when I want, but still has enough length to keep its face planted when I launch if I'm up over the bars on take-off. - Jared Edited March 30, 2007 by BigRed350x Quote
phx450 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Think about what kind of riding you do as well. The longer swingers are great, but not if you MX. I run a +8 on mine as well with my cub motor. I ran a +6 before, with a stock banshee ported, pipes , all the goodies. Quote
Wallrat Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Personally I feel that anything more than +4 and the handling gets so bad that its not as much fun for general riding. If you do some motor mods and you can't keep the front end on the ground then you need a longer arm. You want to run as short of an arm as possible. Quote
White06Shee Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 Well I Just Had My Motor Built, And Its Not That Fast For Me So Im Thinking Of Doing Another Rebuild ANd Maybe Stroker And Some Other Stuff but Idk yet Quote
FireHead Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 So How Would You Figure out What Swinger Would be The Best If you look in the suspension forum on this site, you will find a thread where I am asking some of the same questions. You may want to toss your question in there as well. I am working on coming up with a pretty simple Excel sheet that will calculate what a person might need for a swingarm within a given weight, torque, and coefficient of friction with the ground. My motivation for doing this is that pretty much everyone winds up having a different opinion about what you need and why. Most of it winds up being BS. There are people running around on here with stock pipes claiming that they have to have a +12" arm to keep the front end down (I had an arguement via PM's about it). :shoothead: Quote

If they need a +12 with just pipes and bolt-ons they must weigh about as much as a 2yr old todler, and have about as much brains as one as well. Quote

If they need a +12 with just pipes and bolt-ons they must weigh about as much as a 2yr old todler, and have about as much brains as one as well. The guy had the factory pipes even. What makes things worse is that this particular individual was offering me advice based on my thread in the suspension about swingarm length. At first I thought the person was making a joke, that is until he got worked up about the smart ass comment I made back to him. Then the guy wouldn't believe when I suggested to him he didn't need an extended swingarm. I was also made aware (by him) that he races and wins all the time. Quote
STROKERMAN Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 I RUN A LITTLE MOTOR........... AND WITH IT I RUN A 8 OVER. MY WIFES BIKE I JUST PUT A 350 CUB ON AND SHE RUNS A 6 OVER SO IT IS JUST WHAT EVER YOU WANT. I THINK YOU SHOULD GO +14 AND RACE THE SNOW HILL CROSS......... J/K IT IS JUST A COOL LOOKING BIKE, STRECHED OUT. I PUT MY +8 ON BEFORE I WENT TO MY CUBS AND RODE THAT WAY FOR A YEAR TILL I GOT CUBS. NOW I CAN RIDE A WHEELIE WHEN I WAND AND STILL HOLD THE FRONT END DOWN SOMEWHAT WHEN I LAUNCH. Quote
