hi all im new to the site. i just bought my first banshee about a month ago and it had been running fine until this weekend. i was riding for less than five minutes when it seemed like the throtle got stuck for a bit and it disengaged shortly after, about a minute later my banshee turned off. when i checked, one of my filters was off (they're k and n clamp ons) i then had it pulled back to my truck because i didnt want to mess with it since i dont know much about quads period. when i tried starting it again the kick start was stuck. could i have done some serious damage. any help is appreciated. thanks

Prepare yourself for bad news....Sounds like you locked up the motor...

What kind of riding were you doing when it stopped running? Wide Open, dirt trails, water/mud/dust?

The kick start not moving is NOT a good sign.

Time to do one of two things....

Get a clymers manual, start reading how to take the top end off...and do it all yourself, or pay someone to tear it down for you and tell you what it needs.

You'll save 1/3 to 1/2 the price doing it yourself normally....but if you mess it up putting it back together, there goes that savings....

Yep...that's gonna be a stiff bill.

Gonna have to learn sooner or later....your choice...but I agree with above.

Sand + Water - Air Filter = $$$$$$

No way anyone can say for sure. Best guess is fresh bore and top end, most likely, crank/bearings/bore top end.

Crank bearings and sand play together as well as Israel and Palestine....

Sorry to hear your bad news, i just rebuilt my whole engine once this past summer and now i have to put a new top end on it because my asshole step dad wanted to half ass it and not do it right. I recommend taking it to the shop and getting it done like one of the guys above said. They will tare it down and tell you the damage / costs. Or if you know someone who could guide you, you could do it yourself and have a good learning experience.

whats a good estimate for a new top end?

Probably around $250 or so for a top end kit, if you do the work yourself. It is not very difficult, just get youself a Clymer manual before you start. That is assuming the crank assembly isn't damaged...

You can probably get the cylinders bored and honed AND all parts for 250. Magic Racing sells the complete top end kit for 159 plus shipping, it includes EVERYTHING you need except fluids. Figure roughly 50 to 90 bucks for a bore and hone.

thanks for everything guys, u wouldnt believe the quotes i got from a shop today close to 1000 for a new top end. i guess ill end up buying the parts myself and going over to a buddy who knows a bit about banshees even if it means driving a few hours for a weekend or two. thanks again everyone for your input.

somtimes when the engine seizes your crank needs to be replaced also. my dirtbike was stolen once and when i got it back they didnt know it was 2 stroke and blew it up i needed all new crank connecting rod and piston and all the other stuff like piston rings gaskets. so just make sure your crank isn't messed up. normally when you sieze your engine you know it right away though you'll hear a big bang at least i did wit this kids bike he was riding he didnt have the mixture right. he just slamed teh kicker till it broke loose cheap bastard
