highroller355 Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 someone told me i will have more top end if i put it back to zero,im at +5 on my 4 mil long rod stroker it feels like i run out of steem or not going to full rpm Quote
mpbanshee Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I don't think timing will make that much of a difference. Sounds like you may be a little lean on the main jet. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 your some what correct... advancing your timing give you more bottom end and retarding it more top... thing is having it adv +5 isnt what casueing you not run out of power... its more then likely your pipes or you gearing... jetting wont make you run out of power it will just not run right and cut out... but to feel like you hit a plain and it stops pulling is pipes or gearing Quote
sheefreak Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Are you running high compression? If so your plug gap needs to be addressed. I ran 190 lbs of compression last year and had a problem w/mine breaking up on top. Jetting was good, squish checked out, but was running yamaha's recomended plug gap. I think it is refered to as flame out. In real high compression motors you need to close that gap. .018 for Alky, .022 for gas. Quote

I ran 185PSI last year, a ton of timing, and still gapped my plugs at .028 (on gas)...but I also have a dyna and Nology. +5 probably won't really let you feel any top end loss... I'd bet you need more jetting. What type of terrain are you riding in, what is done to your bike, and what is your gearing? Someone on here had a stock motor bike with air filters and pipes and couldn't get 6th gear wound out on sand...the fact of the matter is sand robs power big time, and that bike just didn't have enough nuts to pull 6th gear in sand.... He might have been able to shorten the gearing, but...then he'd be shifting more and running out of RPMs in other gears. So....just my .02. Quote
highroller355 Posted March 11, 2007 Author Report Posted March 11, 2007 4 mil long rod stroker, aggresive port work ,33 pwk's,v force 3, toomy t-5,boss intake, stock head milled 20, 175 psi each cylinder run 50/50 112/high test 32 to 1 klotz or ams oil ,went to a leaner cel needle 3rd clip it started waking up, now went from 168 main to 160 main running much better but running out of gear way to fast , i think i have to go up one tooth in the front from 14 to 15, also i have a 52 pilot would this make my silencers leak oil, im thinking of dropping to 48 im also thinking of chainging clip position, i am also running air box with no lid and foam filter with a foam dirt cover over it ,i usually run on the street or hard packed dirt Quote

You'll probably be at 45 or 48 pilot, even with the air box removed... Quote
