I use fusion on most of my stuff, but my green was kawie glo green PJ1 frame paint from Rocky Mountain ATV. If i would have used a lighter primer it would have been brighter, but I like how it turned out.

Not to step on any toes but thought i would throw this in and save you some head ache.. Krylon fusion is made for plastics.. The reason being is it has flexing agents in it that allow it to flex/bend without cracking/chipping the paint.. As of now I'm not aware of any primer or clear coat that has these same flexing properties..If your front and rear fenders are race cut then i wouldn't worry about spraying primer or clear but if you still have the big stock fenders use caution as when they get to flexing from the wind and jumps, either the primer or clear coat is gonna start cracking..

This is not my guide but the owner(yfs101) will not mind me posting it to use as a reference..

PAINTING PLASTIC

Painting plastic is basically the same as any other surface however you need to use paints designed for plastics and that are flexable if being used on flexable plastics.

A cheap paint that works great on bike and ATV plastic is Krylon Fusion

Like any paint job, to have it turn out good take your time with the prep work and finishing. Just spraying over scratched up or shiny plastics will never give you good results and a shine like on my bikes and plastics you can't get out of a can.

For plastics in good shape wet sand them starting with 600-800 grit and finishing with 1500. The plasitc will be extremely smooth but dull. for deep scratches and rough plastic you will need to start with a much lower sand paper and work you way up.

No primer is used for plastic when using krylon fusion paints.

The lay down several light coats of the color.

I do not clear coat krylon fusion if it's being put on flexable plastic such as the dirtbike or ATV plastics

Then you need to wet sand the finished paint after it had cured for a week or so then PROPERLY buff the $hit out of it just like you would a regular paint job.

*** do not paint plastic fuel tanks *** you can paint plastic tank covers, or fairings but not right on the tank. the paint will blister and peel as the vapors from the fuel seap though the plastic.

Wow thanks man, that was alot of typing and some great info but check this out; I know about the fusion paint and I think its okay but I just painted my YZ like two weeks ago and its already chipping and I only rode it at the indoor track. It was white so i took it off and 1st degreased the hell out of it and the I washed the hell out of it with SOS pads with oxy clean in them. After that I sanded and sanded and sanded. I sprayed in my attic 1 good coat andlet dry by placing a heater in there fdor about 20 minutes, after 20 mins. I repeated step one more time then I let sit 24 hours. The next day I sanded the black down(for what reason I dont Know) and sprayed 3 more times that day. I didnt paint tank and unfortunatley my seat cover hasnt came yet so it still pink. And now little chips,no way , its gonna look like shit and theres no way I want this to happen to my shee becuz her and I have big plans so I guess what I'm asking is there something a little better than Krylon fusion, I'm willing to pay the reasonable price.

rustoleom does make a plastic primer and you could also use epoxy primer. i've painted alot of plastic and either of them work good as base on plastic but the epoxy primer cost a bit more.i also start off with bulldog adhesion promoter after i sand with a very fine wet sand.most automotive paints will hold up ok because they have flex abilities in them due to being used on alot of rubber and plastic parts on the newer cars.the automotive paints may not work over top the rustoleom primer though.

In my new opinion, fuck paint. I am going to that Vinyl wrap that was at the show and shine last night. Looks just as good and will last better.

Yeah i agree.. Mikes bikes look awesome!! That vinyl is cheaper than the custom paint, more durable and will last longer.. Deffinatly a awesome new addition to the atv world
