Hmmm, I never noticed a wire coming off of the timing plate if that's your second question. The ground/black wire should come off the stator, and run to the back of the bike(it gets spliced with other gorunds on it's way), and then gets grounded to the fram under the voltage regulator. If the coil gap is too much, you will probably still get a spark, but the bike will run like shit, especially towards the power band. If the gap is way too much, then no you won't get a spark. If the gap is too little, the nub on the coil will be gone, it will hit the notch on the flywheel and destroy the coil. Quote
LeadBoots Posted February 21, 2007 Author Report Posted February 21, 2007 (edited) ok here is my problem i just bought a brand new stator and a brand new ignition coil. i checked over all the wiring and fixed all the problems i had. and i still have no spark. could the Cdi be bad? i dunno wat else to think about any help would be great guys. FireHead Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 If I remember correctly the gap is supposed to be something lik .02"-.03". Check a Clymer manual before gapping to the, but it seems to be the number for that gap that is rattling around in my head. Quote
moneybags Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 (edited) The black wire screws onto the back of your timing plate. I think that the pick up gap is .018 Edited February 21, 2007 by moneybags Quote

Ruko Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 can anyone help me with this? Definately could be the cdi... unfortunately there is no way to test them other than changing it out. Quote
LiftdT4R Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Not saying it can't happen, but I have never had a CDI go bad on any of my bikes. I know they do "burn out". But I would completely make sure you check everything else out before replacing the CDI. Make sure your ground is good! If there is a lot of rust around the ground on the bike, or it's not hooked up cleanly, you will have a lot of problems. This is the most common one I run into. Quote
