baddsheee Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 I have the tension bolts all the way in, and the chain is still to loose. Got more than 1-1/2" slack when sitting on the bike. I was wondering if I could cut a link or two and then back out the bolts. Has anyone tried this before or is it not reccommended? I know a new chain is the best way to go but I got a desert ride this weekend and Glamis next weekend. Wondering if this quick fix would work. Quote
LiftdT4R Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Yeah, I've done it before, it's a quick fix, and it should hold you over until you get a new chain. Don't wait too long though or else you'll bee sporting some nice chain whack on youre cases. 1 link should do the trick. Did you ever get that Renthal pad I sent you? Quote

Will do that on the chain, I'll take a link out. I got the renthal pad, looks new. Quote
dajogejr Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Yeah...1 link at most, it's alot shorter than you think it'll be. Just be careful and don't overtighten it.... Also, replace the sprockets too, in a matched set. Steel sprockets are the only way to go on a banshee! Quote
dante Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 I thought about that but I was just going to replace my chain and not sprockets because they look good so why replace? Quote
baddsheee Posted February 16, 2007 Author Report Posted February 16, 2007 I thought about that but I was just going to replace my chain and not sprockets because they look good so why replace? Why is it important to replace in a match set? I have a new 15T for the front, what would have to be matched with the rear? Quote
dajogejr Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Chain wear to your sprockets, sprockets wear to your chain. Worn or slightly worn sprockets will quickly wear out a brand new chain. If you are certain that the sprockets are good....ok then. But, you're gonna spend 75 bucks to 100 bucks on a quality chain, is it worth saving 30 bucks to reuse old sprockets, at the risk of prematurely wearing out that brand new chain? I try not to spend money foolishly either, but...at the same point, safety and reliability comes in there. That's where this falls under in my opinion.... Quote
