dumont dunes?

ive never been to dumont dunes can anyone give me some info about the place???

At times you get sand storms that are pretty bad but can get thru it. It got bad one night on our last trip. My tent was secure & my sleeping bag kept me warm. Paddles for the long steep dunes & cold be to relax are a must. Vendors also setup to sell food, so you don't always have to pack alot of food. If needed you can travel back 30 min to the main road for gas/restaurant.. Gotta try the Mad Greek, good food!! Emergency service are not immediate & if they have to fly you out then you're going to Barstow or Las Vegas. You can tell there's a razorback by the way dust fly's off the top off the dune. not many hills to drag race up but its good riding... like he said there alot of razors out thre... if youve rode glamis? not sure if you have those are more rolling dunes....these will drop off at the top...got some nice wide open flats... not a bad place i used to ride there until i moved closer to glamis, but now im hooked on glamis and probly wont ever go back

ill be going for my first time on sunday,i hope i only drive for no more than 3 1/2 hrs.ill just be at comp so i wont get the full experience. :: :: :: :biggrin: :biggrin:

That's sounds about a good travel time. You can see all of dumont from comp hill, you can experience the whole thing if you wanted to.... I did! It's not as big as glamis. Smaller but way steeper!

Hills are pretty steep. I have not been there on a busy weekend, but I bet it wouldn't be too enjoyable. Nice place, but I would try to go when it's not a holiday weekend.

The email says "Race #2 - Dumont Challenge will be held on the weekend of February 24, 2007." But on the DumontDuneRiders page it also has another event, Feb 24th, 2007: Banshee Wars V- Banshee Hill

whaaaaat? There are 4 hills that everyone hangs out at on the big weekends. And there are a lot more if you just ride around a lil bit.

umm theres 2 hills that most racing goes on at... comp and banshee hill...i used to ride there....

ya... now there is another one on the big face directly east of vendor row... and people are also starting to use parts of the face that is north of the whoops you take to get to comp. Comp and bansheehill aren't the only ones anymore cuz the base of the hills (where everyone lines up at) are starting to get rocky before you get into the whoops. and there are allkinds of hills out in the dunes, not saying there's a shit load of of people to race at all of 'em, just sayin that there are a lot of good hill climbs out there. And when one was the last time u were there, cuz it has changed a lot in the last 2 years.

its been like a year , the one to the east of vendors you talking about to the left of where you go through the whoops but closer to the road?

 

last time i was out that hill was all uneven not near flat enough to race up...thats a good hill if its flattened out some casue its tall and steep..

That hill you guys are talking about was hella fun. I like how the dune is shaped. Makes it more fun. Everyone was at comp hill while we took over this place. I like all of Dumont & can ride anywhere :thumbsup:
