tmac20031 Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Ive allways noticed that my carb breathers leak a little when Im hauling. I have just allways thought it was normal. Is it? Its not alot from what I see but overtime its gotten real dirty on top of the case so Im thinking it might be leaking a little more than it should. O, and something else Ive noticed is that my filter gets really dirty but it's more oil and gunk do to gas gunking up the dust. Is this normal? Quote
RNBRAD Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Normal on 1st question, second I'm not sure what your saying? Quote
tmac20031 Posted December 21, 2006 Author Report Posted December 21, 2006 (edited) Normal on 1st question, second I'm not sure what your saying? the gas that drips from the breahers, it drips and lands on the engine which is the top of the transmission case. It sits there and over time it has gotten real dirty with dust and stuff that mixes with that gas. I was just trying to say that it has been doing this for a while and I think its dripping more than it should. And as far as the filter goes, Im saying that when it gets dirty it seems like there is alot of oil and gas on it, like the engine is spiting it out through the intake. baddsheee Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 Leaking a little out the breather hoses is ok. Your filter getting dirty is normal. I clean mine after a long ride. I even have a spare so it makes it easy. And I keep the filter oiled. As far as gas I have seen this when I stand my bike up and the gas flows back to it. Gas to the filter is not normal. Try cleaning your filter often. Quote
RNBRAD Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 There is some neg backflow of air/gas mixture that will flow toward the filter(s) during cumbustion and a little more without a crossover tube. It should not be anything excessive as the minimal spray caught in the filter should evaporate and really only be a smell of gas and maybe the occasional drip or two noticed in the bottom of the airbox.
