Im going to be changing the brake pads on my bike this week and I was wondering if theres anything you have to do to the rotors. Like have them turned like on a car. Or should I buy new rotars. I wore right through the metal on the pads.

 

Another question, why do they cost 25 bucks a set. Thats 75 dollars for new pads. Its that much for ones on a car. Just really annoys me.

not sure,but you might have to buy new rotors if you scratch the shit out of them? :banghead:

Just like a car...the rotor has it's minimum thickness. No, you probably won't be able to turn it out. I'd see if you can find a used one.

 

When you think about it....your average brake pad for a car probably fits several different models, and millions upon millions of them are sold. There are a TON of after market companies selling them, as well.

 

ATVs or other specialty vehicles are very small in the after market world such as this.

 

Remember, higher qty. = less price.

 

If the rotor is gouged deep, get a new or new(er) used one. Or else you'll be buying 25 dollar brake pads again, very very soon.

I'm STILL on my origional front pads!!! I've replaced my rear pads at least 7 times. I'm still running my origional rotor but it's getting pretty bad now. I'm starting to get a lip on the outside of the rotor. I use the EBC pads and they used to be alright untill they started color coding the pads. I got a new set which were the red kind and they only lasted 3 rides!!! They say to use the green kind because it's for mud and dirt. Gonna go try a pair soon.

 

Yeah the pads are a ridiculous price and the rotor you can go a while untill it gets really grooved up. I've ran them down to the metal a couple of times but the rotor isnt like a car where you need to be precise or it stops like crap and everything vibrates.
