bansheefourseven Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 What kind of coolant do you run? Im using 50/50 coolant antifreeze with water wetter. Whats the lowest amount of anti freeze I should use if I wanna take a few rips this winter in the back yard? My shee overheats a ton and I started using water wetter in my coolant and It doesnt overheat now. Ive also heard that running distilled water and water wetter works better than coolant and water wetter. Whats the best combo. I ordered a pro design impeller and have heard about engine ice but what works better? Quote
kubiac3 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 For the winter 50/50 and water wetter is a good choice. Im pretty sure engine ice doesnt offer any freeze protection, but im not positive. If you run distilled water and water weter in the winter it will freeze so dont do that till summer. Your bike shouldnt overheat without water weter though. Quote
bansheefourseven Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 Im riding a very short track in my buds back yard its only a first and second gear track not more than a 150' straight away and then hills and banks and berms. I ordered a pro design impeller It wasnt overheating but would spit coolant out of the overflow after running hard for 20 min or so only a teaspoon full or two . I didnt think it should overheat either but it does and it is bone stock with pro lites and a brand new topend. Jetting is perfect a lil darker than chocolate brown which is fine. The motor was 10 years old and was within specks everywhere I had it honed to match the .003 clearance and was golden. Quote
kubiac3 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 O if its just a few tea spoons its fine. Mine spits just as much and is modded a little. Another little thing you could do just for cheap insurance is adding a temp gauge. It costs like maybe 20 bucks tops. Wal-marts has a gauge for 7 bucks and then you just need a t-fitting. Takes about 20 minutes to install. You could do it when you put the new impeller in since your draining your coolant anyways. Thats awesome that you have a track by your house though. Theres nowhere to ride around by me. Mt. Clemens area. Quote
dajogejr Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Fix the overheating problem, coolant alone will not do that for you, no matter what additive or mix you put it at. Something else is not right, bent radiator, clogged...shot water pump impeller...etc. I use straight water in my cub during the spring/summer months, and just put 50/50 in it for ice riding coming up... figure out the problem first. Engine ice will is coolant AND antifreeze, by the way, but you want to run it 100%, don't mix it with old coolant or water. It's good to 26 F below... We used to be able to ride in Port Huron, but it sucked.... There are no good places to ride by us, unless you know someone with a lot of land.... Lake St. Clair, however....will be frozen in a few months...should be fun. Quote
