banshee 4 me Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 this is my first post.heres my problem, banshee was in storage for 3 years, took it out, carb manifolds were dry-rotted(i have the prodesign pro=flow intakes)replaced them.eliminated tors with the motion pro carb caps.took carbs apart and totally cleaned them with compressed air and carb cleaner,i am positive all passages are free from debris.on top end the bike breaks up.if in neutral and pin the throttle bike pops and spits.ive never had a jetting problem because bike ran excellent before it came out of storage.so im convinced its not jetting, can it be electrical, bad cdi,bad stator maybe, bad coil??running fmf fatty's pro design foam airfilter,260 mains, air box lid on but no snorkle....any ides???? dajogejr Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Did you put the idle screw kits in? Did you get the float bowls on correctly? Carb slides in the right carbs (cutaways face the rear of the bike) Choke tube in place? Lastly, revisit all of the wiring, make sure you disconnected the TORS everywhere, not just the two carb caps. You're jetting sounds just about right.... Did you put the idle screw kits in? Did you get the float bowls on correctly? banshee 4 me Posted November 9, 2006 Author Report Posted November 9, 2006 idle screw kit is installed, works fine, choke tube definatley in place, carb slides?????dont they only go in one way??floats set at 21mm,no problem there.guess ill check on those tors connectors.its autum here in new york, its getting cool out,30's and 40's,above sea level.ill have to check those slides, but when i work its one carb at a time,so i dont think i crossed them.i really think its an electrical problem,im gonna ohm out startor,coil,cdi,ect.....also...can the carbs be badly out of sync??? fox_forma Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I dont recall the stock float heights but isnt 21mm pretty high? Most bikes are around 16mm-18mm i thought. At 21mm it could be possible its starving for fuel Quote
dajogejr Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 As long as the slides OPEN all the way, doesn't matter if they're out of sync at WOT, unless they're retarded out of sync. Slides can go in either way...or in either carb. Check 'em.... I'd start checking your stator and coil with an OHM meter, then take off your flywheel (with the correct puller, NOT A jaw type) and shake it to make sure there are no busted up magnets inside.... Rest assured, stock carbs call for 21 mm height, measured from top of float to gasket surface on carb. Quote

dajogejr Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 You can check the coil and Stator with an OHM meter, CDI is more often than not good or bad. Check the flywheel, too...as said. Jetting richer than what your motor requires shouldn't be done, it won't get you more power, it will only load the bike up, foul plugs, etc. The key is to get the right mixture of gas an air to the engine is performing at it's best and most efficient.... Throwing more main jet in will not increase performance unless you're way too lean to begin with, and I don't think you are with FMFs and an airbox still.... The stock air box lid helps hold and seal the air filter to the box. If you remove the lid, the air filter will not seal properly. The Pro Design plate bolts to the front of the air box and seals, so....you can run NO lid and get a good seal. Quote
