silencethevoice Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Looking for some recommendations for jetting on stock carbs.. Standard bore, Eric Gorr Mo' Power Everywhere Port/polish, FMF Fatties, VForce 3 Reeds, Cool Head with 22cc Domes, Stock Airbox with proflow adapter (no lid)... I am a riding at close to sea level (glamis), this bike rarely leaves the dunes. Thanks in advance.. Quote
wesw Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 stock or 27.5 pilots, 4th clip needle 330s to start might go 350s and work down will have to adjust your needle. should be close to run and then fine tune from there. to adjust needle roll into the throttle. see how it acts if it bogs or blahs out usually rich. takes some time but when done it should run good. dajogejr Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 You're a lucky man to have a set of Gorr jugs, period...it's too bad he moved across the pond... I think Wes' recommendations are close, probably rich with the air box still on...but, close enough to get started.... Quote

dajogejr Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Stock Airbox with proflow adapter (no lid)... Got it...but the normal jetting on that...stock porting, would be a 270 to 290 main.... Of course, the porting changes things, but...it's not a drag port. However....as I'm sure you know, Wes...some porting can actually take smaller jets because it pulls fuel/air more efficiently out of a smaller jet than stock porting does. But...as said, you're definately safe with his suggestions! Quote

I just got back from glamis, and was running a 2 into 1 38 setup, and blew holes in the tops of my pistons.. The bike ran pretty damn good while it lasted (I was running too much timing/compression for pump gas..) But, I was still kinda feeling like it was lacking something, so am going to go ahead and try the stockers after this rebuild. The guys out here at Alba (they're doing the machine work) set me up with a 310 main and a 32.5 pilot.. I guess it doesn't seem to far off, and I'll be sure to do a plug chop as soon as it's up and running to make sure I'm not too lean... Thanks for the advice.. Quote

Thanks for the advice.. I have a question for these guys and it is relavent to your statement here... What do you guys do with motor work like this when you have a fresh top end or even bottom end for that matter? run a tank or two at a rich ratio blah, blah, then do the plug chop? Hate to ruin all that expensive work... :shoothead: Quote
dajogejr Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I think what you're asking is if we do anything special for break in on a fresh build, no? Me personally... I run the same oil/gas ratio as always. 32:1 or 40:1, depending on fuel type and oil. ( I run leaded race gas and Klotz R50 at 40:1, btw)... I'll heat cycle a motor twice, retourque bolts, go for a quick ride, nice and easy with the bike fully warmed up...then beat the hell out of it like I stole it. I'm not of the school of thought of more oil in the gas for the first two tanks, no more than half throttle....blah blah blah.... Quote

Didnt want to go hauling balls down the road to do a plug chop and have it go into cardiac arrest Quote

I ended up getting a set of 33s.. Really stoked on the performance so far, and it didn't seem that hard at all to tune.. Had to spend a few bucks for a unisyn and a bunch of jets.. But after a day of experimenting it was well worth it.. Quote
