ellison445 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 couldnt of said it better myself   Just use the run of the mill Mikuni Hex head jets (mains are all you need)... I know dynojet makes a needle for these carbs, but they repackage Mikuni jets for the mains (far as I know they don't make mains for them...might be wrong.) Dynojet's needls for stock carbs are way overpriced, even in the Toomey "perfect jet" kit.... The good thing is since you dragrace down an air strip, that couldn't be a more perfect place to do a plug chop!!!! Plenty of room to run out the gears...lucky dog you!! I think jet "kits" are a waste of money, to be honest. They're generic in packaging, and every bike is different as are the rider as are the riding area/locale.... You're better off buying jet by jet to suit your needs... sudco.com, carbparts.com and magicracing.com all have the jets you'll need online if you don't wanna make a trip... Quote
dajogejr Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Tough call...gecko...if your bike is jetted way off, you'll at least keep it from blowing up, and it should rev/run cleaner and better with correct jetting. I personally like the dynojet/toomey needles for the stock carbs. They eliminate a "lean spot" in the middle.... However, I got mine in a kit from Magic Racing (yes, a jet kit) on CLEARANCE for 20 bucks, plus shipping. If you call Toomey or Dynojet, they sell the needles for over 20 bucks EACH...so, I couldn't pass that deal up. However, Vito's has a longer, thinner needle similar in design that is cheaper. You should be able to get it to run fine with the stock needles, though.... Quote
GEKO Posted October 23, 2006 Author Report Posted October 23, 2006 Alright koo so the needles are kinda of pricey i c well i can get the complete toomey jet kit for 60$ is that a good price? and right now im running my toomey t5 with my stock jets and needles and all that shit lol pretty much just pipes which is probably why its not runnin to its full potential also just mayb i dnt think thats a good idead to have stock jets with pipes lol but yh the reason i asked was becuz my frnd has the same pipes with jets and hes faster than me by like 2 or 3 bikes so ill wait for your call if you agree that for 60$ the toomey jet kit with needles and all are a good price ill by them and a seprate set of 280 main mikuni hex just incase i alrdy have a couple sparks plugs to test this all out this weekend... one last thing when i put the 16 tooth sprocket i lost way to much acceleration they told me to go with a 15 front and 40 rear wuts ur opinion??? By the way youve been a great help thnks alot dajogejr... Quote
dajogejr Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 STOP RIDING THAT BIKE NOW....if you have T5 pipes and stock jets. Youre WAY LEAN, and you're risking big time damage...period. Yes, it'll run helluva lot better with the correct jetting! With just pipes, keep the stock gearing. I've got over twice the HP as you do, and I use stock gearing.... unless you did long runs, 1/4 mile or LONG, LONG straighaways, then you can use the 15 tooth up front....it will take you quite some time to wind that out! Most common drag races at dunes or in dirt rarely get past 4th on a banshee.... Wait on the needles..... They're 40 bucks from Vito's.... If you have the cabbage, it's not a bad idea...but, don't worry too much about it. http://www.vitosperformance.com/atv_parts/...at=0&page=1 If you get ONLY the needles from Toomey, they're 25.00 a piece...so, you're call. GEKO Posted October 23, 2006 Author Report Posted October 23, 2006 yh i only rode it a couple times with out the jets something told me its not a great idea... well todai ima set off and buy the jets and stuff (needles) i spoke to a frnd and hes goin to get me the complete toomey jet kit with needles and all for 50$ sounds like a good price to me and yh where i ride its mostly just really long str8 aways so long its make you want a 7th gear lol... but yh thnks alot by this sat i should b out there kickin ass thnks to you buddy by the way i cut my fenders usin a disk grinder thing it came out awesome everyone thinks i got it done at a shop lol... dajogejr Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 The Toomey jet kit comes with the needles, 270 and 280 main jets. Put their needles in, use the 4th clip down from the blunt end. Put the 280 mains in....and you should be ok. Just make sure to do a plug chop and be sure!! Good luck, let us know how it turns out.... Quote
GEKO Posted October 24, 2006 Author Report Posted October 24, 2006 Well yesterdai i went and bought the jets i called toomey and asked them what size needles came with thier kit n dey said .74 so i bought everything seperate instead of the kit way.... cheaper. I got a 4 Pack of 280 hex main 3$ and a 4 Pack of 270 hex main 2$ the needles i have to wait until i find the correct part number but they should be about 6$ a piece not bad huh? but until then ima just put the jets only can i run my bike fine with just the jets? and Which is the 4th clip i dont know to much about that... ((( Put their needles in, use the 4th clip down from the blunt end ))) Quote
dajogejr Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 That's odd. Last year, I talked to Stuart Toomey personally...and he didn't know what the measurements were on his needles. He said "they were a custom grind both he and dynojet worked on together..."... You'll be ok with your stock needle....the dynojet needle is just a bit better. Yes, you are correct. Stock needles have 5 clip positions, the Toomey/Dynojet have 6. So...in the toomey/dynojet needles, put the clip in the 4th clip down from the blunt end!! Quote
GEKO Posted October 24, 2006 Author Report Posted October 24, 2006 Ok koo ill do that once i get the needles im not sure when tho... i no ima have the jets on friday so ima install them myself u got any pointers or tips to help out so that i wont end up screwin something up lol im just that type of lucky person sometimes lol and about the toomey needle things i dont know what to tell you, we called and spoke to someone there and thats what they told us... so i just take there word for it... dajogejr Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Well...I asked him about needles for my cub motor, and he also said he doesn't know what a cub motor is...lol. Anways....yes. Do one carb at a time so you don't mix up the slides and/or float bowls. Clean the crap out of them, while you're at it.... When they're back on, take your time and syncronize them correctly...so that the slides open and close in unison with each other! Quote
GEKO Posted October 24, 2006 Author Report Posted October 24, 2006 Dam you got a Cub on ur bike that thing must b fliyin I was at some races sunday night and some guy had a cub on his he was runnin 110 mph no problem on race gas, those things are wild lol... but yh how would i go about syncronizing the carbs??? and what do you use to clean the carbs i used normal gas when i used to clean my friends carbs...
