Or tell the wife since you don't have 4x4 she will have to ride the quad or wait at camp. No point to bring the truck at night anyways rangers will be there to kick you out before long, and unless you can ride up the hill and wait you will have to head back IN traffic (which means you will HAVE to stop and get stuck) Quote
Wallrat Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Getting there is pretty easy, its getting back that's tough. That first hill when you leave olds eats 2wd's. I've pulled out more than a few guys there. Keep your speed up and don't even think of touching the brakes. If you feel the wheels start to spin, ease off a bit on the gas. The idea is to keep traction and digging holes doesn't help that. If you stop moving, get off the gas ASAP and throw it in reverse. You won't be able to start going again while heading uphill so just back up and take another run, this time a little faster. A 2wd truck with decent tires can make it in/out of there no problem, as long as there's no traffic and the driver knows what he's doing. Quote
racer Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 i took my nissan hardbody with a 2.4L on the dunes in oklahoma. at first we were driving in 4HI, but moved to 2HI when it was apparent we werent gonna get stuck. i think we were cruising along at like 40ish miles per hour, liquid courage. haha, didnt even air down the tires (goodyear MTR's). with a quad in the abck it would be a lil different though. like wallrat said, speed is KEY when going uphill.
