the question the last guy asked got me thinking i have an adjustabke timing plate set at +4 and other performance mods and i am about to put a head milled to 60 thousandths on it i run at sea level and can you guys help m out here dont want to risk f in anything up

before you run it put it on and check your compression. that is the only way to truely find out if you need to run race-gas. with 60 milled off you should be at a high enough compression to cause detination (which kills a motor) or your rings and cyl walls are ineed of attention. :banghead: just curious if your going hi comp. on engine, have you thought of cooling mods??????????????? my $0.2

i guess im not exactly surte what you mean by cooling mods and you mean i need different rings and stuff ike that?

.060 is too much without re cutting the chambers for proper squish.

im reasonably sure the stock head and headgasket and engine has around a .075 squish. you would usually want to be around .035 to .045 squish for gasoline. i would say cut .035 off the head to bring the squish back down to around .040 and then check the compression to determine what octane fuel you require.

im no expert on any of this but i personally wouldnt go over .035 on a head cut without re cutting the squish. running the squish too tight seems like a bad idea.

so what you guys are saying is that i probably will want to run torco or at least a mixture of premium and torco or should i not run this head at all to avoid fin things uo or as long as i run a high enugh octane ill be ok also i have a billet impeller on the way

i am almost positive if you run .060 that will mean 110 gas. hi compression equals aleast a little more heat in cylinder. if you get a low compression reading with a 060 shave something else is wrong. that is what i was saying about your rings and stuff---

there are some threads about head mods and effects on compression just do several searches.......

oh and the head is already milled so it is what it is and im just trying to figure out wat i shloud do

thanks man ill do the compression test and tell you guys what i find out but what oik shoukd i mix in with tirco is klotz strill good to use

i am currently running a milled head .030 my compression is in the upper 150's in both cylinders i am at 3400 ft with my compression like it is i am borderline to running 50/50 pump and race gas but i have never noticed any detination so im still running premiup pump gas mixed 32:1 klotz benol id say its worth a shot like the other guy was sayin be careful of the squish though if all else fails u can buy a stock head from one of us for pretty cheap and start over i got one for about $20 bucks on here shipping inlcluded

so im startin to get all this shit now but is there anyone whos is currently running a milled head at .060 at sea level so i can kinda know what theyve had to deal with as far as detonation and gas mixtures and stuff like that also jet setings and kinda of an idea of what psi iwill be running from their own experience

if you truely have it cut for -.060 your piston will hit your head ,its not a question of weather yo uneed race gas ,run it like that and youll need a new topend as well. thats too tight a clearance and will detonate regardless of fuel and when the engine gets hot the rods actually stretch and will cause it to hit at high rpms ,you need atleast .032 clearance or your gonna have big problems eventually

that doesnt make sense to me if it has some milled off of it how would it hit if it didnt when .60 was still on it maybe you couild explain it to me a little better and what the fuck i should do

you cut too much off the head. way too much.

you need a new head or you need someone to rechamber youre existing head.

do you mean rechamber the milled head or start over fresh and rechamber that one because the one i had milled also was redomed to match the mill if that means anything so i guess whats the best to go with as far as thousandths milled off of a head for michigan sea level runs at silver lake i want good performance and dont care about race gas or not
