Hollister_Hitman Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I am installing a 2 into 1 carb and I have some paper gaskets for the intake ports where the reed are. Should I just use the gaskets alone or use some gasket sealer as well. I don't know if it is ok to use gasket sealer in that spot because I don't want it to get into the reeds Quote
differentstrokes Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 You should be fine without the sealer, the paper gaskets absord the premix so they usually don't leak once they swell some. I personally don't use any sealer on my 2 stroke gaskets. Quote

I use a very small amount on both sides of the gasket. I actually rub it in to the gasket. I can't see how this could hurt other than making dissasembly and cleanup more work. But Ive done it this way for years and I have never had an air leak in that spot. Quote
rocketboy Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 id never use paper gaskets ,i like cometic steel coated gaskets ,no chance of tearing or poor sealing IMO if you do run the cheapo paper variety lightly coat both sides with automotive grease to be sure theres a nice tight seal . Quote
differentstrokes Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I know people that swear by soaking them in WD-40 too, I guess that's kind of like the motor oil idea. Quote
bansheerage Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 i use the gasket sealer on a couple of gaskets because it fills in all the tiny micro pourous spots that the eye cant see but will get you in the long run if the shee is run hard enough. Quote
