peterlocal22 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 hello everyone when i turn my handlebars to the left they go farther back than when i turn to the right. the left wheel also moves farther left than the right. now i looked at the steering stopper and i think it looks ok but im not positive. i have two questions for you, first what could this possible be? and second does anyone have a picture of there steering stopper taken from either the right side or the left side of the bike? im trying to figure out how close the steering stem is suppose to be to the stopper because i have about a 1/2 inch space. maybe its suppose to be flush? thanks for any help Quote
EastCoast Banshee Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Hmm.. looked at your tie rods? aslo get a picture of your steering stop that will help more than anything. Quote
locogato11283 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 check to make sure that when you turn your wheels one way or the other that the ears on the steering stem arent startin to slip past the stopper. that could be it or like eastcoast said, the tie rod may be bent. thats really your only 2 ways this problem can occur. peterlocal22 Posted September 23, 2006 Author Report Posted September 23, 2006 ok its definatly the steering stopper. its about a quarter inch more to the left than the right. so im going to try an hammer back to the left but how the hell am i suppose to do that. any tricks to the trade to get in that tight spot? also what tools or blunt objects did you use to fix it? thanks Quote
peterlocal22 Posted September 23, 2006 Author Report Posted September 23, 2006 shouold i use a torch to heat it up and then bend it? Quote
reded Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Perhaps you could just grind that side down a little instead of taking a hammer to it? Quote
Yamashee1 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I had the same problem with mine. I just took a long punch and hammer and straightend it back up. no prob. Quote
peterlocal22 Posted September 25, 2006 Author Report Posted September 25, 2006 do i need to reweld it after i rebend it? Quote
EastCoast Banshee Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I didnt reweld mine after i bent it back and its holding up just fine but i would like to beef it up some. If you have the stuff to weld cut a few triangular pieces of steel and weld them in front of the stop. Quote
Yamashee1 Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Im gonna say no on the welding. unless you hit one of your front tires on somthing hard and bend it again. Then i would to reinforce it. Quote
