herbanshee Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 Going through one of two banshees we just purchased and the chain and sprocket are junk. So Im looking to find a set possibly on ebay and had a few questions. What is your opinion regarding O ring and non O ring? We will be trail riding along wth the dunes. This banshee is stock with the possible exception of a boost bottle which we are still debating on since it will have stock exhaust ........do you think it will still help with low end? Which leads me to the next question of what would be a good sprocket combo to get a litte more torque from the bottom end? Since we have a 4+ swingarm do you have to buy a special chain for it, or do the regular ones have enough slack? And last but not least............I luv 2 strokes! I went from riding a cr250 race bike to this banshee. A relative of mine says "Oh, why did you buy a banshee............they are notorious for leaning out one one side!" "Unless you plan on riding wide open all the time you will spend more time rebuilding it than riding." So me being the the headstrong girl that I am went and bought another one just to prove a point. Two strokes are EZ to work on, EZ to rebuild, and can really take a beating. So what are your thoughts? Im thinking if they do have problems with one cylinder maybe its because of the carb falling out of sequence???? If this is true any way to fix the issue??? Thanks! Audrey Quote
bansheeseat$$ Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 Audrey, Welcome to the HQ. For your first question on o-ring or non o-ring.I personally run non o-ring chains on mine however look for a good tensile strength chain.Ebay ones ussually have very low tensile strenght.Gearing I would run a 13/42 combo and with a +4 swinger you'll have to get a longer chain.116 I believe with that gearing.(2)don't bother with a boost bottle.Waste of money! And as for the leaning out it's ussually not jetting correctly for the conditions or running out of gas. Ducman Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 Look in rockymountainatv.com for some pretty decent prices on chains. Get o-ring chains. Non-orings are pretty much race only, they will stretch after every ride and wear out fast. I have a +4 swinger and I just bought a 120 link chain + universal link and shortened it to the length i needed, I think its 116 links but I dont remember for sure. Just use a dremel to grind off the rivit ends, slip the chain to remove the length of chain that is not needed. Boost bottles are junk, don't get one, they dont do shat. Gearing kinda depends on the exact situation you will need the gearing for. I gear down just a bit so I can get into higher gears on long steep hill climbs in the dunes and my motor doesn't come on the pipes untill very high in the rpms. However in the ocean dune sand trails I have to shift alot more which is a somewhat undesireable side effect. I run 13/40 with 21" paddles so it is actually pretty close to stock. For the trails you would want to run taller gearing so you dont have to shift as much especially if you still have a motor that starts pulling at pretty low rpms (like stock). Stock gearing 14/41 is actually not a bad all around gearing especially for a stock shee. As for the leaning out of one carb the only way that could really ever happen is if you had an air leak between the carb and the cylinder or a partially clogged main. Most of the time if this ever happens it will make the one cylinder run so crappy you will now you have a problem, you can hear when one cylinder is running even slightly different than the other. As far as I know this isn't any more common than any other type of motorcycle carbs leaning out. Banshee's are tough as hell. The only think that I've ever done to F-up my shee is run too low of octane for the amount of compression I was running and it detonated and ate up my pistons, fortuneately I knew there was a problem and found out what was going on before my pistons broke or dammaged the cylinder. herbanshee Posted September 11, 2006 Author Report Posted September 11, 2006 Ok, so I definetly wont spend the $$ for a boost bottle. I will try a couple other affordable mods that I have see in other posts to get more power. I think Im gonna try the NOSS cool head or possibly just milling the stock one a bit, slip on a K&N and...................well just have to see what left in the budget. We bought 2 that were in need of TLC so we are replacing plastic, wheel & tires and other bits and pieces.........they all add up. Oh I think Im gonna look into aftermarket water pump impeller too! Also I heard there was some tool to help keep carbs in senque that FAST has????? Quote
