Timing Adjustment on Stator

Like the title says I just bought a stator and it has the +-10 deg timing adjustment what does this buy me. I am about 60 hp and ride dunes to trails and everything in between. Thanks.

First, no offense, but you've been a member for 4+ years and you aren't exactly sure what the gains of an adjustable timing plate are? Nonetheless, by advancing the timing you can help increase the lower RPM range power of the engine. Most guys run around +4 as a general rule, but you can run more timing if you have ported it, and thus changed the port timing. If you are turning out 55+ at the rear wheels then I'm assuming the bike must have a pretty decent amount of work. So, you may be able to run more timing. Many guys will run in the +7 range with an aggressive dune or drag ported cylinder.

I leave my plate at 8 all the time, and normally use the out of the box curve 3 on my dyna...at lower RPMs(5 to 7500RPM or so)...that puts me near 29 or so degrees of total advance...and as the RPMs rise....the advances lessens from the Dyna.... This setup works great.

 

Cub motors LOVE timing and compression, though...and I run straight leaded 110 all day long.

 

Before you start getting silly...you have a checklist to do.

 

Welded crank? Forged aftermarket pistons (not cast stockers)....proper jetting, good compression from proper clearances, etc....

 

When you start "putting the screws to the motor"...what wasn't right before (off jetting, weak component) gets magnified a lot quicker....

 

A shaved flywheel compliments that timing advance very well...too.

Ya have been around a long time but just dont post alot. I have never had an adjustable plate so I never tried to learn about one. I run 18cc domes and race gas now. So I may try +4 and see what that gives me then maybe advance some more and see how it goes. Thanks for the info.
